Anna Karenina (I) (2012)
7/10
Right at Imperial Theatres of Russia
16 January 2023
As Wright intended, I travel back to the front seat at fancy theater in Imperial Russia in 1874, enjoying the show. Costume and set design is gracious and elegant, giving theatrical and opera vibes. Some of the scenes are worthy of making an artwork such as painting or sculpture. The original book by Tolstoy is of great volume, and I was wondering how Wright can make it into two-hour movie. The director and screenwriters do such a great job of chopping of unimportant characters and events and of focusing on a few significant stories, so the main story of Anna can stay organized and focused. I'm short of 3 characters, stupid policy.
