The Enforcer (2022)

Taken Redux.

Warning: Spoilers
Miami's top mob enforcer, Cuda, sacrifices it all to tear down the criminal organization he's spent his whole life building up when he discovers his boss, Estelle, is putting a young runaway's life in grave danger.

Now, he has one last chance to make up for his past and find redemption......both for himself and his family, before the mob hunts him down for his betrayal......

What it lacks in its first act, is made up in the final thirty as we get Banderas doing his own take on the classic 'Geriaction' sub genre that action starts from the past are finding their mojo back later in life. Banderas, aside from a few films, wasn't really known for his action roles, aside from the Mariachi films, and a couple of Hollywood hits, but the past few years has seen him in straight to streaming roles as someone out for revenge (Acts Of Violence), or in a Die Hard in a..... role (Security).

This however, has the added bonus of him having an unnecessary sidekick in stray, so the film has something for the younger members of thee audience. But this is is all Banderas, as suave as he ever is, with an edge of psycho that just makes his character all the more interesting.

It's nothing more than a Taken hybrid, he pays for a young girl to stay in a hotel for a few few days, she is 'taken' and then he finds out that she is being trafficked for peoples online enjoyment. So he goes on a rampage. Along the way, he runs into Kate Bosworth, and a bloke who was in the UK version of Gladiators, and gets into some very visceral and enjoyable set pieces, until the predictable scene of redemption.

It's pretty throwaway stuff, but if you like action films, this will fill a gap until the next one comes along.

And as always, close your eyes whenever Banderas talks, you'll hear Puss in Boots swear a lot.
