Be careful what you wish for when asking for film adaptions of your favorite book. You just might get it. If you haven't read The book, please do so. You will love it. This film on the other hand. Ouch. How could these writers take the masterpiece that was Grady Hendrix's My Best Friend's Exorcism (clearly they didn't read the book) and absolutely gut it to this hallowed out charmless magicless thing. The backstory of how Gretchen and Abby became friends, that back story MATTERED! The magic of the friendship wasn't captured. The pacing was weird, the character chemistry felt forced. Oh and don't get me STARTED on the ending. What the fudge was that?!?!?! The ended didn't need adding or changing. The ending in the book was so powerful and magical and you felt the need to add Walmart gollum in cgi?!? No. Nope. No. I am angry typing this at this point. Someone take this off. Refilm it and do it right!
