"Caught in His Web" was produced in 2022, and yet the film's main premise about cyberbullying as a phenomenon that is not taken seriously is simply not accurate.

The focus of the film was on the lives of Emma, Gabby, and Olivia, who are harassed online by an anonymous figure called "Blake." It was preposterous to believe that the school principal would not take the young women's claims seriously and even twist the facts to suggest that they brought on themselves their humiliating predicaments.

It was also a stretch to believe that Detective Holland would not receive the full support of her police staff to investigate online crimes. Are we also to believe that the three young women would not be more candid with their parents about how their lives were being crushed? Emma made a suicide attempt, and Olivia was using drugs. Yet their parents were left completely in the dark. The filmmakers were evoking a "culture" that does not square with the universally acknowledged horrors of internet stalking and harassment.

The film merits three stars for the three outstanding performances of the main characters Emma, Gabby, and Olivia. The bonding of the three young women was heartfelt and moving, as evoked by the actresses. There was even a woke component woven into the film with Emma being a lesbian. The filmmakers were working hard to raise consciousness about cyberbullying. But the overall feel of the film was that of a bleeding heart tale of the state of the internet in the year 1999, as opposed to 2022.
