Resurrects the Franchise?
8 March 2023
I have been a big Dragon Ball fan for quite some time. But this was the first Dragon Ball movie I got to see in theatres. And it was a very fun theatre experience. Me and my brothers brought scouters to the premiere, the theatre was packed with fans. Before the movie began, they screened interviews with the funimation voice cast answering trivia questions about Dragon Ball lore. It was one of my favorite theatre experiences.

For those who liked "Battle of Gods" but felt it needed more fighting, this is the movie for you. What is great is that, similar to "Battle of Gods" lots of the characters get time to shine. Krillin, Master Roshi and Tien all have some baddies to knock off from the Frieza Force.

Newcomer Jacko of the Space Patrol is a welcome addition to the cast. He has just the right level of comedy and competence to make him work well with the other characters.

On the downside, with the way the movie wraps up you get the idea that the characters were never in any real danger. As if at any given point they could have just ended this conflict. The heroes didn't have to rise up to the challenge of a stronger foe, they just wanted to get some cathartic beating on a villain they didn't like.

All that being said, this movie is still one of Dragon Ball's better films. And when I think about it, I remember the good more than the bad. Now can we just bring back Cell?
