The ship has only engines - no FTL drive engaged, and to reach its destination is supposed to take take decades. Alpha Centauri is only 4 light years away, right? But the stars are sliding in the viewer outside the ship - that implies its speed is much higher (faster the light).
There is not other binary star system between us and Alpha Centauri, but the ship is able to slingshot around to to reach to a planet in just a few hours or days. That's insane. With such kind of speed, why haven't they went to their intended destination (instead of detour)?
They should have some computers on the ship, something to help the make the best slingshot (the margin of error were small, right? Just a few degrees). But no! They had to use the pilot, and such acceleration they were flying around the ship...
