Review of Ruby

Ruby (1992)
1/10
Terrible

Terrible, ridiculous, and misleading film. I wish I hadn't watched this mess, but I forced myself to in the hope that it would begin to make sense. It never did because most of it is pure fiction. Before he killed Oswald, Ruby was considered nothing more than a small-time mobster-wannabe, a hotheaded joke, and a cop groupie who owned a sleazy strip club, but in this movie (or whatever it is) he's portrayed as if he were another Tony Soprano. Hardly. I expected to see an accurate, factual account of Ruby's life and his part in history where JFK's assassination is concerned, but I should have looked elsewhere because this isn't it. The actors try so hard to act like Mob figures that it's laughable. What's especially ridiculous is throwing in a side story about a Marilyn Monroe lookalike named "Candy Cane" who strips at Ruby's club and then somehow infiltrates the Mob. Silly and stupid.
