Pennyworth (2019–2022)
7/10
some comic book fun
15 April 2023
As a young man before becoming Batman's butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon) left the British SAS to start his own security company in 1960s London with fellow soldiers Dave Boy (Ryan Fletcher) and Bazza. The Raven Society is secretly trying to overthrow the government and install a fascist regime. Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) had recently uncovered their financial fraud and they try to kill him. After having failed, they kidnap Alfred's girlfriend Esme to force him to track down Thomas Wayne for an exchange. He starts working with Martha Kane (Emma Paetz) of the No Name League. Evil henchwoman Bet Sykes (Paloma Faith) escapes execution with the help of her sister Peggy.

It's an alternate reality of 60's London. The show reaches a climatic end after the second season. The third season has to rebuild a reason for the show. It's a winding season-long road which gets to a mushroom cloud. I guess they're trying to out-do the second season. It's cancelled after three seasons and running out of steam. Bannon is a good lead. The British actor needs to break out of the British TV and become a worldwide superstar. Paloma Faith seems to have the most fun in the cast. The third season should really lean more on the Batman.
