Manam (2014) : Brief Review -

An Indianized Nolan-fied multiverse of emotions, love, family value, and nostalgia of the Akkineni family. Don't get me wrong when I say this: If Christopher Nolan were an Indian and a fan of the Akkineni family, then he would have made Manan with that brilliant mind of his. While he was busy making Interstellar, Vikram Kumar did the job for him. A brilliant and smart script meets the Indian sentiments and nostalgia of Akkineni's family to deliver a heartfelt experience to Telugu audiences. What a fantastic piece of writing, and how smartly it was done. Three generations of the Akkineni family (male members and one female member in a cameo role, while Samantha became Akkineni 3 years later) are cleverly fit into the crossover of generation timelines and the multiverse of reincarnation. Those different dimensions create a soothing experience, something that can only be felt and not expressed in words. For instance, a man trying to set his mother and father's love story in their rebirth when they are younger than him. Such a unique concept. One more creative thought was naming them after their father's names. Nagarjuna is named Nageswara, Chaitanya is named Nagarjuna, and ANR is named Chaitanya. Even Nolan would write/direct something like this. And that club dance scene was EPIC! ANR, Nagarjuna, and Chay fans will remember it forever. The idea of relationship bonds crossing the barrier of generation is so exciting. I could imagine myself in one role, and boom. I would be in tears. Seeing your mother and father in their rebirth and doing everything for them when they don't know that you are their son. What a crazy yet emotionally lofty idea this is. The climax scene could've added another layer; that's a big miss. Nevertheless, it's a very unique concept and a delightful watch. A must-see for Akkineni fans.
