What if Taxi Driver sucked and was boring?

Warning: Spoilers
I'm a fan of Paul Schrader's work. I have loved every movie he's done exploring the psyche of some tortured weirdo (Taxi Driver, First Reformed, etc.) and I was super excited for this movie. I really tried to enjoy this movie, but after about an hour and a half of nothing interesting happening, I finally accepted. Nobody in the movie acted like a real person, too many scenes amounted to absolutely nothing, and there were opportunities for interesting things to happen but they abandon them every single time. There was an interesting story about a reformed white supremacist under witness protection being pulled back into a life of crime because he wants to protect a black girl he fell in love with in there somewhere, but instead they give you long, drawn-out monologues about the intricacies of gardening. The acting was strange, the dialogue was strange, and people did strange things the entire movie. It breaks my heart that he's ending this trilogy of films with this movie. I'm going to go back and watch it again because maybe I missed something, maybe I was expecting something else and I was unable to appreciate the film on the first watch, but as for now, I'm not a fan.
