MASTER GARDENER (2023) ***1/2 Joel Edgerton, Sigourney Weaver, Quintessa Swindel, Esai Morales. Third in filmmaker Paul Schrader's 'man in a room' trilogy (after FIRST REFORMED & THE CARD COUNTER) focuses on Edgerton (excellent) as the titular character employed by rich bitch Weaver who also tasks him into taking her troubled grandniece (Swindel; equally good) under his wing as an apprentice on her grounds which causes tensions to build and his dark past to come to surface. Slow-burn and long boil but worth the wait in this morality play about redemption and inspiration in the unlikeliest places (and people).
