If this movie suffers from anything - it's the caliber of actors chosen. They're all B actors. And so it became a B movie.
The worst being, though I hate to say it - Kurt Russel.
Maybe his worst performance.
There's nothing there.
I realize it was his attempt at 'stone cold military man', but that's not what he pulls off.
It feels more like the effort you get from someone forced to make a movie they don't want to, because of contract obligations.
If they put someone better in his role, the movie becomes a solid 8.
There's also something very unappealing as to how they presented the locals of the alien planet. Maybe how they shot those scenes. Maybe what they chose to go with. Not quite sure. But it cheapens the experience.
If they did something better with the locals and Kurt Russel's character - it turns this project into an easy 9.
