Third Poor Attempt With Cinemascope
11 July 2023
This film was the third Cinemascope film, and like its two previous ones. ' The Robe ' and ' How To Marry A Millionaire ' it wallowed in superficiality. At least the other two had good casting, especially ' Millionaire ' but this one had only two things going for it was the use of colour and Bernard Herrmann's fine score. As for the acting it is as shallow as the waters are supposedly deep. In my opinion Peter Graves ( underrated actor ) should have had Robert Wagner's role and Terry Moore is passable as the woman who men fight over. There is one nasty fight between Gilbert Roland and Peter Graves over her, macho posturing all the way while Wagner stands aside to watch. There is also a distressing death scene which I usually avoid watching, That said it is passable entertainment and fortunately better Cinemascope films followed this initial trio.
