Valley Of The Dragons/Prehistoric Valley (1961) -

This is the second film that I've seen recently where a rogue comet has displaced a group of Earth people. I'm not sure what the science involved would be, but I personally find it very hard to believe. I did like the way that they tried to explain it for the layman though.

I also found it hard to believe that no animals were hurt during the making of this film, because some of the scenes were quite brutal.

Of course I'm not talking about the animals created by the special effects team, which were pretty rubbish.

Even I wasn't afraid of the spider monster and I'm someone who still needs my mummy to get rid of money spiders.

Thinking back to some other films that came before this one, I did think that the special effects were a bit poor. However the "Morlock" type creatures were quite terrifying.

The two leading men Cesare Danova as Hector and Sean McClory playing Michael weren't actually that bad as actors go, but their characters seemed to know an awful lot about prehistory, astronomy and science, which is more than I do.

In many ways the film had a lot of similarities to '1 Million BC' (1966), but without the "Modern" interference. And actually it could have been compared with a number of films of the same genre, where people end up in a valley lost in time is suddenly discovered either on our planet or another.

It did get a bit drippy and less action packed once the women arrived on the scene and the lack of dialogue at that point made it a bit dull. In fact even the action got to be overlong and boring after that. Overall it could probably have been about 15 minutes shorter.

However, with all of that said, it really wasn't the worst film ever and I got through it quite easily. Worth watching for a laugh if nothing else.
