This is such a big topic Vito Russo's book should be made into a multi-part series and updated. A three parter would work with Gays as Sissies, Gays as Victims, Gays as Killers or something like that.
It's mind boggling that the documentary never mentions gay actors like William Haines, Ramon Novarro, or Alla Nazimova. Or how about the perceived gayness of Rudolph Valentino in playing MONSIEUR BEAUCAIRE?
No mention of Cary Grant and Randolph Scott, who were roommates for years? No mention of studio manipulation to "encourage" lavender marriages to shield stars. Janet Gaynor and Adrian are good examples. That's a topic unto itself.
