The Last Days (1998)
1/10
"Denial" rubbish aside, this is full of outright lies from a legitimate historical perspective

I don't see how this has more of a 5 rating but even after over 25 years this still isn't exposed as what it is - another of Speelberg's functional films

Difference is of course it's based on actual historical events - but most of the testimonies are at best tenuous and at worst verifiably untrue

Just as a basic a start Irene Zisblat's ludicrous fantasy 'autobiography' is mostly demonstrably shredded on the holocaust controversies blog in the article ' Irene Zisblatt, the "Diamond Girl" - Fact or Fiction?'

And there are other points brought up in the film 'The Last Days of the Great Lie' but it also supports holocaust denial which is for some reason a crime in most places and is historically problematic because there's no doubt there was a final solution - interestingly made possible by IBM computers bought by the Socialist Government in the 30s which is another interesting story.

Yes we all love Spielberg's classic films with a few early and most recent exceptions, despite being ridiculously sentimental - but he should have stuck to Fiction instead of marring an already problematic field of Second World War history, which as most thinking people know now has a long preliminary series of causes not least of all the Russian Revolution and the massive genocides of Russian peasants which were both conducted under the tenure of a large presence of Jewish involvement in Russian governance, not to mention that both the first and second world wars were basically stoked by the Americans, Russians and British, who collectively started and ended them both effectively, not to mention again that the massacres of national socialism were informed by the British (and American) ideas of eugenics and communism was invented in need by Engels who supported destitute Marx and his family in a flat for years while he wrote that drivel.

How do I know this? I'm English.

There are far more interesting and revealing epsodes in his history than are shown in crass garbage like this.
