Two major flaws while the rest is fine
7 November 2023
It's always embarrassing when a monumental film is being spoilt by interfering details. Here there are two of them.

The first one is "the samurai" sequences. They are irritating and make harm to the whole production. Mr Terry Gilliam should have left his love for Akira Kurosawa movies to himself. To impose his obsession with Akira Kurosawa onto viewers was a mistake. In my humble opinion of course. The scenes of the main character flying were such a treat and the scenes with that massive robotic kamikaze-samurai were a terrible nuisance. It all looked completely out of place. So, minus two points here.

The second one (and the last so far) is a phrase thrown by the female character Jill Layton: "Care for a little necrophilia? Hmmm?" After this phrase my first reaction was to turn this movie off. It sounded too harsh and abominable, spoiling the subtle dream-like atmosphere of the scene. Minus two points here too.

If you are a big acclaimed director with style you simply cannot afford such stupid and interfering blunders in your movie.

It should have been a great film, but taking into consideration these flaws, it's a mediocre flick.

A 6 out of 10. Thank you for attention.
