So I had not seen this movie when it came out. Now I have and wow is it dumb. This movie is the Robocop funkopop version of Robocop.
Gary Oldman and the guy who plays Robocop are doing their best to make this movie work. And they almost make you ignore how boring it gets.
To all would-be scriptwriter and producers in Hollywood, if you EVER watched a Verhoven movie then you should know that his movies aren't REALISTIC. That means that Politics and corporate babble is just as boring in movies as in real life! So don't put boring politics in an escapist movie! It makes it very boring!
And the second thing I want to point out: you have such a great ingredients from the Robocop movie like the original theme! Why isn't that theme played in the climax of the movie or the credits!? What was that generic royalty free music in the credits?
Last thing and this is the most annoying thing, this movie is dumb. It's made for simple people who need to be spoonfed the story instead of writing something interesting. At one point, Murphy is being controlled by this movie's version of Derective 4 which makes no sense honestly. Murphy was going to arrest the bad guy not kill him! But anyway, Robocop is being forced by this Directive 4 maguffin to not aim at a bad guy. How does Murphy overcome this problem? Does he throw a grenade to trip him up? No. Does he ricochet the bullets to trick the system? No. Does he stick his fingers in an outlet to override his program? Nope. He. Just. Wills it. Really hard! No intelligent inspiration in this movie to solve a problem.
So why did I give it a 6? Well the actors are good, the action scenes are descent, most of them at least. 3 quarters of the movie is actually good. It just splats in the ground like a meteor because it has no idea how to end this movie. And the politics, Pg-13 and lack of intelligent thought or ideas drag this movie down.
If you want to see a real a real Robocop experience then buy the Robocop game from 2023. I sure wish the people who made that game would have been in charge of this movie.
