Poor Script - This Should've Been So Much Better
3 December 2023
This offering is a rip-off of I LOVE LUCY's Harpo Marx episode where she tried to fool the nearsighted Carolyn Appleby. Here it's Vivian who can't see and is the "victim" of Lucy's scheme.

The script is beneath the talents of all involved. For a special guest appearance, it falls short. At least in I LOVE LUCY the redhead was not trying to pass off a wax dummy as a human being. HOW were Lucy and Mary Jane able to get the wax figure out of the museum without getting arrested? Also, Viv may be "blind as a bat" but she's not deaf. She acts like a total airhead here.

Having Lucy "speak" for the figure and keep repeating "Wunnerful" ad nauseum was really poor and lazy writing. I know it's just an old TV show, but this one is just too illogical for me to enjoy it. I will say I loved the part where the kids sneak the REAL Lawrence Welk to the dinner table and Lucy returns from the kitchen unaware of the switch. You can see him trying to stifle laughter as the audience cheers wildly.

Lucy, Viv and Mary Jane were kind of like a proto-GOLDEN GIRLS in this episode so it's especially disappointing they were not given a stellar script that played to all their individual strengths.
