They Nominated The Wrong Song
28 January 2024
Ace fighter pilot Fred Astaire hops off a publicity tour that's cramping his leave to pursue magazine photographer Joan Leslie. He's annoyingly vague about everything except his name as she tries to get him a job.

It's good to see this, as is any Astaire movie, but it seems that the producer cut this to shreds. There are at least two dance numbers cut out, and what's left looks like a lot of ad hoc stuff. Robert Benchley gives one of his lectures, and Miss Leslie reports that whenever he proposes, he starts talking about the sex life of the polyp; a couple of lyrics refer to the stars former co-stars. Of course it was Oscar-nominated for Best Score and Best Song; the producers were pushing "This Will Be My Shining Hour", and neglected "One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)". With Robert Ryan, Elizabeth Patterson, Clarence Kolb, and Eric Blore.
