Writer / director Edward Burns is an indie wunderkind with his modest, gentle, seemingly semi-autobiographical, blue-collar family dramas - like 1998's "No Looking Back". Lauren Holly (a busy but surprisingly little known actress) lives an unremarkable life as a diner waitress in a small US East Coast town (captured superbly in its bleak off-season glory) with bf Jon Bon Jovi, sis Connie Britton, mum Blythe Danner & pal Jennifer Esposito... til douchie ex Burns returns from a failed California exodus to try turning her head. It's understated but quietly real & effective. Adrenaline junkies won't like it, but it's the exact fare that has Burns' many fans loving him.
