Wrecking the internet
5 March 2024
The first movie Wreck-It Ralph (2012) was a great animated movie from Disney that focused on retro video games and video game characters who had their own lives outside of just being a character in a game we play at arcades, making the movie funny, have likable characters, and use excellent 3D animation to bring these characters and video game worlds to life; the sequel six years later now focuses on the internet, which has potential to be good. The sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) is not as good as the first, but is still a worthy follow-up with its clever uses of the internet, the fantastic 3D animation, still likable characters, and quite a few funny moments; there is not much of a main villain, it is mostly just Ralph learning to be a better friend to Vanellope, and helping her fix her game Sugar Rush so it can be plugged back in again with Vanellope wanting more as a racer.

Ralph voiced again by John C. Reilly is great at still making the character likable, along with Ralph helping Vanellope with fixing her game, but also learning to be less of clingy person to her and be a better friend; the friendship between Ralph and Vanellope is still well-done, and they work great together when hanging out either in other games or when walking around the internet learning things about it. Vanellope voiced again by Sarah Silverman is also great at still making the character fun and loveable, along with her trying to fix her game but also wanting more as a racer, which involves her loving a game on the internet called Slaughter Race; her and Ralph are funny, and Ralph trying to be a better friend by giving Vanellope space and letting her do what she wants can lead to an effective emotional moment. Lastly, there is a cool character from the game Slaughter Race name Shank voiced nicely by Gal Gadot, who is a professional racer in her game and someone Vanellope looks up to; also, Felix and Calhoun voiced again by Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch, who are funny, are not in the movie that much despite having a side plot that is not referenced again till the end.

The 3D animation is fantastic, especially in its visuals, not only giving great visuals and details of the video game worlds but also the internet world by showing how big it is with lots of sites, apps, and properties from Disney that you will recognize, and laugh because of how they make fun of them and have the main characters interact with everything; it might seem like advertisements for all of Disney's properties, but how they show them and use them can be funny like when they make fun of their own Disney Princess tropes from past films. The movie is very funny on how the internet world works and how certain games like Slaughter Race work with its intense tone and funny moments, along with some out of nowhere dark moments that can be funny, and a surprising threat revealed by the third act that can also be funny.

The second movie Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) is not as good as the first, but is still a good sequel with its fantastic 3D animation, funny humor, likable characters, and a great way to show how the internet works with clever and funny visuals or interesting ways to describe it; if you liked the first movie Wreck-It Ralph (2012), then you will have fun with its sequel. The movie was a good fun and funny sequel to a movie that was also fun and funny to watch whenever you have the time; Disney fans and animation fans will love and enjoy both movies for how creative they are with their premises and their characters, and I am one of those people who like this kind of stuff.
