Warning: Spoilers
Sophomore year, THIS WAS MY SHOW. 2011 was a good year. I watched every episode as it was airing AND was absolutely gutted when it was cancelled after 1 season What attracted me to watch was Phoebe Tonkin from H2O, but then I got into the whole cast, Gale Harold being here too, as another lawyer :) and Diana's dad ALSO was awesome! (GALE is just awesome as a lawyer, pulls it off)

I did read the original trilogy of books, within the first 5 episodes of the show airing on tv.

Cassie Blake was a normal teen until her mom dies in the pilot episode. She's forced to move to Chance Harbor to live with her grandma, in the house her mom grew up. Soon after she discovers her heritage that she, along with 5 other teens: Diana, Faye, Melissa, Nick and Adam, form a coven of witches.

I also enjoyed the romance aspect, as it's basically interwoven in the plot: Adam's dad was in love with Cassie's mom, it didnt work out. Now, Adam's dad believes Cassie and Adam are fated to be together, but the slight problem is Adam is with Diana. That was actually a Good triangle because Diana was not annoying. Also it's always fun when its kids vs adults, and what the other is planning.

The show struggled a little bit with its plotting in the front half of the season, but towards the end, it really, really picked up. The beginning had some slow moving plots like binding the circle's magic, bully witches, demonic possession, silly b plot love triangles while all interesting, were incohesive plots.

Midway through, the witch hunters were a good plot that I'm glad stayed around. The boatyard fire backstory that killed their parents, the Balcoin dark magic backstory, finding the Crystals to assemble to skull, the half sibling reveal, were all fantastic plot points, in the latter half. Of course the ending twist of the other circles of balcoin kids coming for the circle- BEST CLIFF HANGER EVER!

Unfortunately, the show was cancelled. The network cited declining audience, and costs of special effects as reasons why. Fan campaigns to renew the show were also unsuccessful. I remember, I signed some petitions!

All these years later, I think the show stands as one of those that stand out as a 1 season only show.

I will admit, I think Thomas Dekker was miscast as Adam. Adam in the books was a total all american guy, whereas Thomas Dekker on the show was a bit too emo as Adam. Dont get me wrong, I like his acting, and his character on the show but total mismatch of character approach. That mismatch left the show without a strong leading man. I mean Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley on TVD were HALF the reasons to watch TVD!

Maybe one day, we will get a Secret circle reunion and the cast and producers will say what could have happened. I'd be open for it!
