Road House (2024)
8/10
Watch it as its own thing. Its a fun action movie.

The original movie is a bit of a sleeper classic. It will rarely be mentioned as "best action movie" with the likes of Die Hard, Rambo, Lethal Weapon or such, but its still a pretty solid movie that most action fans have enjoyed, myself included.

Even tough remakes been around for a while, i mean pretty much every horror slasher franchise had one at a point, there was also a trend of making disconected sequels to older movies. For instance Kindergarten Cop, wich they made a number 2 with Dolph Lundgren in the 2010s. That movie was nothing special and didn't live up to its original but it was ok as a direct to video pop corn movie. Road House actually had one of those sequels as well in the 2000s but i have not watch it at this point, so i can't comment on it.

So instead of making a Road House 3, they simply called it Road House and re=use the name of the main character. But thats pretty much where the similarities end. Its Dalton in some kind of Road House, altough a very different one from the original. So more of a re-imagining than actual remake.

The rest is completely different, from his background to how the story develop. Personally i really enjoyed it as its own thing. For the most part the fights were brutal and entertaining altough with a few hiccups in term of camera work during a few, in my opinion, but not enough to be a big annoyance.

Jake's character as a confident Dalton that give the vibes of the nicest guy alive but can kick your butt major time was fun. Side characters for the most part were fine as well.

Now sure Connor McGreggor was something ... His character is litterally a caricature of himself boosted x100. He has that weird way of walking like trying to overly look confident and tough but it end up looking like he has something shoved in his ... well you get the picture. Personally i just decided to roll with it and enjoy the corny over the top performance and it worked fine. I wasn't expecting a master class of acting from an ex UFC fighter.

I picked this movie as my (hopefully) last "beer drinking movie fun time" for a while and i wasn't disapointed. It was pretty much what i wanted it to be.
