For context, I've only made it half way through this series. So I can only speak about it from that point. I read the book series when I was younger and enjoyed the movie.
I started this show because I love to see fresh takes on older series. I especially love the inclusion of black characters into fantastical worlds. Plus, the trailer looked amazing.
Where it began to fall short for me was the reliance on humans and modernism to tell the story. I also disliked how dark and grim the Spiderwick mansion felt.
Where it lost me was just the cliche and predictability of it all. I stopped watching around the point of episode four where they threw a party. There is just not enough of that fantastical element I was looking for. But it isn't bad and doesn't deserve one stars. Some people are being motivated by hatred to rate it that low.
