A Most Disappointing Sequel
28 April 2024
After Romancing the Stone became a successful mini cult classic, The Jewel of the Nile felt more like a rushed cash-and-grab sequel. I didn't like the Egyptian setting, the humor wasn't what it once was, it lacked originality, a lot of it was forgettable, it's attempts to go bigger on action fell up short, and I didn't care for the change in dynamic between Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner's characters. At least Danny DeVito kind of held down the fort on his smaller end. For as good as the first one is, The Jewel of the Nile is a most disappointing sequel I couldn't blame you for skipping..
