Abigail (2024)
7/10
one of the best horror films in many years
11 May 2024
What most reviewers have forgotten about the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD - probably because they did not see it in original release -- is that it was fun. Horror? Sure. Fun? Absolutely. The actors (mainly amateurs since the film had zero budget) were having a ball. The audience too. Because NOTLD combined elements never seen before, established a new sub-genre, set a trend. Abigail 2024 reminds this reviewer of the first NOTLD. The script is brilliant. It combines a standard vampire tale with a locked room tale with a mystery. And the ballet twist is clever too. At the 1:10 mark, Abigail tells one of the trapped "kidnappers" that the way out of the house is secret switch behind a book called "And Then There Were None." Which calls-back to the the "Locked Room" sub-genre. Which this film incorporates. Smart script. Really an unexpected treat. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer."
