I couldn't get past the first episode. There are obvious qualities on display here. The narration diffracted in three periods creates a lot of depth and mystery. The very first shot is very beautiful too. But what irrevocably put me off is the characterization of the two main characters. They are walking clichés, and their opposition is caricatural. This is immediately established by a car conversation between them. Cohle presents with elaborate words his extremely pessimistic vision of the world, going to the extent of advocating the extinction of the human species, while the virile Hart has only primary notions to oppose it. The viewer is cornered into an impossible choice, which excluded me definitely.
