Richard Barthelmess as a Runaway Prince
drednm14 July 2009
Richard Barthelmess stars as a European prince, a second son, who is bored with his protected life and yearns for adventure. After all, he's not the heir apparent. One day he spies a pretty American girl (Lois Moran) and decides to follow her to America. Once there he changes his name to John Gregory and romance blossoms.

The twist here is that through a series of accidents, both his father and his brother die and Barthelmess unimaginably must become king. But what to do with Moran? The stars make for an attractive screen team and production values are better than most other Inspiration Pictures (founded by Barthelmess) productions. Barthelmess once again proves himself to be the most versatile of the major silent screen actors, here playing a straight-forward romance. Compare this smooth and pleasing character with his role in such landmark silent films as BROKEN BLOSSOMS, WAY DOWN EAST, TOL'ABLE David, or THE PATENT LEATHER KID.
