A slew of Marilyn Monroe and Hugh Hefner collectibles sold at auction over the weekend, including a pink Pucci dress worn by the actress and a smoking jacket and slippers worn by the Playboy founder.
The three-day auction, which ended Saturday, saw the long-sleeved silk jersey Pucci dress go to the winning bidder for $325,000, which set a record for a Pucci dress sold at auction, according to organizer Julien’s Auctions.
Also sold were the one-space mausoleum crypt at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park & Mortuary in Los Angeles, located near the final side-by-side resting places of Hugh Hefner and Marilyn Monroe, for $195,000; a grave marker from Monroe’s crypt, for $88,900 (constant touching from fans led to minor wear, causing it to be replaced); Hefner’s burgundy smoking jacket, slippers, pajamas and tobacco pipe ensemble ($13,000); and a circular mansion bed custom-made for Hefner as a backup to his primary bed...

Rita McKenzie, the actress and singer best known for her boisterous performances in the one-woman show Ethel Merman’s Broadway, died Saturday in Los Angeles after a long illness, her husband, talent agent Scott Stander, announced. She was 76.
McKenzie first starred on stage as the powerful Merman — star of such iconic Broadway hits as Anything Goes, Annie Get Your Gun, Gypsy and Hello, Dolly! — in New York in 1988.
Belting out tunes like “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “I Got Rhythm” and “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” McKenzie toured throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia in what many consider the longest-running one-woman show in theatrical history.
She also starred in parts that Merman made famous: Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes!, the gunslinger in a 50th anniversary tour of Annie Get Your Gun and Rose in Gypsy.

James Corden, Jane Krakowski, and Josh Gad will have to be forgiven for the disruption of turning a Los Angeles crosswalk into a makeshift stage — at least they can promise it won’t happen again. As Corden prepares to exit the Late Late Show for good, he’s giving his most famous segments one final send-off, including Crosswalk the Musical.
“And so my merry band of thespians, today we say hooray for Hollywood,” Corden told his cast of actors. “Today we shall bid our final adjure with songs from shows...

For a live television show that is assembled on the fly over a six-day period, "Saturday Night Live" has suffered remarkably few on-air disasters. The f-bomb has been uttered more than a few times, Jimmy Fallon used to co-host the Weekend Update, and there was the whole Ashlee Simpson lip synching snafu. But SNL, overall, goes on as it must.
This doesn't mean every episode has been a party. If you've read Doug Hill and Jeff Weingrad's "Saturday Night: A Backstage History of Saturday Night Live" or Tom Shales and James Andrew Miller's "Live from New York: The Complete, Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live as Told by Its Stars, Writers and Guests," you know there've been behind-the-scenes scraps, scrapes, and scenic malfunctions. Worst of all, there have been multiple lousy guest hosts: stars who didn't get the show or bristled against its collaborative nature. Madonna, Steven Seagal,...

On March 12, once the curtain comes down on the 95th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre, the must-stop afterparty will just be getting started for Oscar nominees — winners and losers alike. This year marks the 65th anniversary of the Governors Ball, but it wasn’t always a coveted invitation — or even a tradition. The first Academy Awards statuettes were handed out in 1929 at a banquet in the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, but the annual banquet was discontinued during the war years and, by 1958, the ceremony had migrated farther down Hollywood Boulevard to the Pantages Theatre. This meant that once the show was over, the stars were left to fend for themselves. So that year, the Academy charged actor and future California senator George Murphy with chairing a post-Oscars dinner dance, which would take place at the Beverly Hilton hotel. Its venue has changed over the years, but...

What do the 25th and 75th Tony Awards have in common? The landmark Stephen Sondheim/George Furth musical “Company,” Angela Lansbury and the beloved tuner “The Music Man.”
The gender-bender revival of “Company” is considered the front-runner for the Tony for Best Musical Revival as well as featured actress for Broadway legend Patti LuPone who brings down the house with “Ladies Who Lunch.” Elaine Stritch originated the LuPone’s character of Joanne; her rendition of “Ladies Who Lunch” is considered one of the indelible show-stopping numbers in Broadway history. Stritch was considered a shoo-in for lead actress but lost to Helen Gallagher for the revival of -the 1920s musical “No, No Nanette.” Go figure. Gallagher was good, but she wasn’t as great as Stritch.
The original “Company” waltzed into the Tony Awards — which took place at the Palace Theatre on March 28, 1971 — with a whopping 14 nominations and won six including Best Musical,...

In life we are often reminded of 'that which doesn't kill us, makes us stronger'. If you happen to be going through troubled times, you often don't see a difficult experience as an opportunity for growth.
This realization doesn't occur until after the dust settles. That is usually when we gain true perspective.
I think the underlying theme of the first Episode is actually all about strength, but not just in the obvious way as suggested in the title; 'Stronger than Ever'.
I think we see a lot of strength in many of the ladies in this Episode, but let's dig a bit deeper.
The first few scenes in Episode 1 touch base with the ladies that have returned for another Season. We see Lisa Vanderpump and husband Ken Todd hosting a dinner at their restaurant 'Sur' in West Hollywood.

Part of the credit goes to the master of ceremonies James Corden, best known as the goofy host CBS's Late Late Show, yet still a dorky theater kid at heart; his charming, cheerful persona brought...

This week, there's not much in the way of new movies to mention being released to home video (unless you're into Josh Hutcherson or Dane Cook--and if so I'm sorry--in which case there's the bizarre horror comedy Detention). So, we give you this lovely new box set of seven Marilyn Monroe classics on Blu-ray, released today on the 50th anniversary of the star's passing, which includes: - The Seven Year Itch - Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - How to Marry a Millionaire - River of No Return - There's No Business Like Show Business - Some Like It Hot (previously released on Bd) - The Misfits (previously released on Bd) The transfers are superb, the blacks very black and the colors brilliant, and the DTS-hd Master Audio 5.1 tracks sound terrific...

The Grand Illusion It's interesting to see the film with spine #1 over at the Criterion Collection coming to Blu-ray for the first time from another company as Studio Canal has brought over their previously released European version of the excellent La Grande Illusion to Blu-ray here in the States. I have not yet had a chance to watch this release but word is that it looks great and the supplemental material looks strong. I previously owned this title only in my [amazon asin="B000I5YUE4" text="The Essential Art House - 50 Years of Janus Films"] collection, but I love how Studio Canal and Lionsgate have teamed to continue to bring some classic foreign titles home to the U.S. Although, compared to the number of titles they've released overseas, they still have a lot of catching up to do.

This week: A serial killer wrecks havoc at a high school in "Detention," the meta horror-comedy starring "Hunger Games" tribute Josh Hutcherson.
Also new this week is the teen coming-of-age flick "Lol" with Miley Cyrus, the impressive Blu-ray collection "Forever Marilyn" featuring seven of Marilyn Monroe's best films and a new edition of "Total Recall" on Blu-ray.
'Detention'
Box Office: N/A
Rotten Tomatoes: 33% Rotten
Storyline: This meta horror-comedy hybrid stars Josh Hutcherson and Shanley Caswell as students who are trying to survive their final year of high school as a serial killer called "Cinderhella" stalks the student body. Dane Cook stars as the master of detention, Principal Verge.
Extras! Both the DVD and Blu-ray contain screen tests and the "Riffing with Dane" featurette.
We Say: Its spirited self-referential shtick doesn't put "Detention" on par with "The Cabin in the Woods" or any of the "Scream" movies,...

Moviefone's New Release Pick of the Week "Detention" What's It About? Josh Hutcherson leads a teen cast (plus Dane Cook?!) in an over-the-top horror slasher that involves everything from time travel to body-swapping. See It Because: You're either going to love "Detention" or you're going to hate it. If you hate it, it's because you think the movie is an assault on the senses, rife with obnoxious jokes and references, and ridiculous concepts. If you love it, it's because you think "Detention" is a frantic roller coaster of a movie that accurately captures the pop smorgasbord we call teen culture. "Detention" is audacious enough to throw everything from '80s John Hughes to "Scream"-style horror in a blender and go for broke; it's up to you to decide if that's a good thing or not. (Also Available on Redbox | Amazon Instant Video) Moviefone's Blu-ray Pick of the Week "Total Recall...
