Snorz N the Hood
Bill35727 June 2009
This is a cheap production from Action International Pictures meant to capitalize on the early nineties "hood" craze. It tries to rip off Colors and Boyz N The Hood but what it rips off most is the depression era hit Angels With Dirty Faces starring James Cagney, Pat O'Brien and the East Side Kids (not a rap group), especially the first scene.

The main characters Emilio, a cop and his brother Hector, a really obnoxious criminal. They end up competing for the affection of their very stupid youngest (and dumbest) brother, much like Cagney and O'Brien.

There isn't as much action in this as I'd like, mostly a bunch of really dumb angst ridden arguments between the brothers, some gang banging scenes, and some lame attempts at social commentary courtesy of Emilio's community activist love interest. Another subplot rips off Colors a bit, only in this the older cop is a fat racist!

On the plus side, there's some T&A in this for the horny guys out there and a pretty nifty theme song (by Ice T?), also a cameo appearance by TV's Todd Bridges from Diff'rent Strokes. You know you like him!

Anti Gang Cop Drama
jfgibson739 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Homeboys is a low budget movie that reminds me of nothing so much as an old episode of Highway to Heaven. Two Hispanic brothers grow up in L.A. Emilio becomes a cop, Hector joins a gang. The story has bits of The Public Enemy, Boyz In The Hood, and even a reference to Scarface. The brothers are set on a collision course as Emilio works on taking down a drug ring that includes Hector. There are some scenes of town meetings in a community center where the neighborhood discusses the gang problem, and in these moments, the movie becomes truly depressing. While the two brothers argue about which path is best, a third and younger brother, Louis, takes an interest in following Hector into the gang life. Eventually, when Louis' life is threatened, Hector does the right thing and turns on his drug dealing associates. He is set to testify against them after they are arrested, but in the final scene, Hector is shot dead. The screen fades out even before we can fully see Emilio's reaction to his brother dying in his arms. The movie has some swearing, nudity, and bloody violence, but still feels like a TV production. 3 our of 10.

Terrible DTV "movie" that cries out,"Cheap-cheap!"
Captain_Couth7 October 2003
HOMEBOYS is a ghastly "movie" about youths running with street gangs. An uncle of mine has a friend who always had screener videos on hand. We watched this travesty together and I could hardly contain my laughter. The film starts off with a crappy, third generation video credits along with pixeled images that slowly focus to a 40 year old man being initiated into a youth street gang (he must have been fullfilling a childhood dream). The "movie" continues to go down a slope from then on. Mediocre directing, junior high school acting, OUR TOWN sets and no f/x budget make this one a loser. The film's production value reminded me of a Public Access Show or a cheap Chrisitan Film. Check out Todd Bridges (he receives top billing on the video and on screen) strecthing out his fifteen minutes of fame that ran out fourteen minutes ago. I give this movie 0. It's so bad that it belongs in the dust bin. Unworthy of a grade. Has no value as a party film either. BAD. This movie will break your VCR. Honest injun.I believe Mr. Bridges was completed his Community Service Duties by participating in this film.
