Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels starred in the hit 1994 comedy film Dumb and Dumber. The main point of interest in the film was the pairing of a rising comic talent like Carrey and a serious character actor like Daniels. Carrey had already proven his mettle in comedy with back-to-back comedy hits Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and The Mask earlier in the same year.

However, Carrey assured him that everything was going to be okay.

The Sony Pictures sequel “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” made headlines as it rolled through a succession of Florida locations in late February and early March, with reports of crews “spark(ing) buzz” filming on the A1A Highway in Fort Lauderdale, fans catching a glimpse of stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in Brickell, and traffic tie-ups in Miami.
“If you look at the trailer, you’ll see anything that has to do with the beach is all us, with the stunt scene that they did on Ocean Drive in Fort Lauderdale,” boasts Sandy Lighterman, film commissioner for Broward County (Film Lauderdale) and president of Film Florida. “That was because we made it so easy for them.”

Jim Carrey may have been a comedy veteran for more than 30 years having totally transformed the genre and bringing a lot of iconic comic characters to the screen, but some of his movies stir up a feud to this day.
Though one particular film dates back to 1994 when something that was quite normal now seems offensive, the actor’s opinion about one controversial moment in the movie hasn’t changed over the years — and this is what infuriates everyone the most.
The actor’s Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was released 30 years ago and, apart from contributing to Jim Carrey’s skyrocketed career, became a box office hit grossing more than $100 million with the initial budget of only $15 million.
The critics were harsher though, giving the movie 47% on Rotten Tomatoes — and a major reason for that may be the scene that meets all the intolerance criteria right now.

Suddenly emerging in the mid-1990’s as the main comedy icon, Jim Carrey proved to the whole world he is the genre’s genius. His Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber definitely made a revolution back in 1994, bringing new comedy standards to the cinema industry.
Before delving into dramas, the actor starred in the 1997 comedy, where he delivered, presumably, his best performance at the time. Moreover, he solidified his status as an actor, entertaining the whole family on a different level, with the kids laughing at his expressive mimics, while the adults admired his ability to embody the craziest ones.
The movie’s plot revolves around the divorced lawyer Fletcher Reede, who built his entire career on lying, which also becomes the reason why his marriage failed and, more than that, why his young son Max gets more and more disappointed with him.

The franchise could have been totally different had Jim Carrey been a part of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. The ever-talented actor initially garnered the spotlight with his work in the 1990 TV series, In Living Color. He had been active in the industry for years, majorly portraying supporting roles, before rising to prominence in 1994 with a string of hit films, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber.

However, Carrey would have gained the limelight much earlier than 1994 had he been cast as Ian Malcolm, a role that eventually went to Jeff Goldblum.

When it comes to celebrities and those who live inside the gates of Hollywood, it would seem that the skeletons in their closets find a way out eventually. The mightiest fall the fastest and those who were known as the kindest, possess the most darkness. Unfortunately, very rarely is someone exempt from this, and Jim Carrey was not fortunate enough.

After watching Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber in 1994, fans of the film industry were convinced that Jim Carrey was the hottest new comedy genius in town. The actor is singlehandedly responsible for some of the most hilarious memories from a lot of people’s childhoods. It’s safe to say his personality, both on-screen and off-screen, revolutionized the comedy genre.

However, lately, things haven’t been looking too good for Jim Carrey. After 2016, the actor has only been a part of three movies, courtesy of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. There was a time when he wanted to be just like Tom Hanks, who has managed to adapt so well with the ever-changing times in the film industry. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out like he had imagined they would.

Allllllrighty Then! Fact: if you were a kid in the nineties, you grew up idolizing Jim Carrey, and probably had the two Ace Ventura movies memorized. Recently, actor Kurt Russell fondly reminisced about taking his son Wyatt to see Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and it looks like another Hollywood tough guy was also a huge fan as a kid. In a surprisingly deep THR profile, Reacher star Alan Ritchson fondly remembers seeing the film as a kid and found Carrey’s performance loosened him up, as he had a deeply devout, religious home life that tended to be austere.
Calling Carrey his hero, Ritchson remembers, “When Ace Ventura came out [in 1994], I was in sixth grade, and I was enamored. He was so physical, goofy and unafraid. I’d never seen anything like it. I dressed up as Ace Ventura for three Halloweens in a row. I showed up to school...

There is a good chance Ace Ventura: Pet Detective will come up in conversation if you ask someone who is strolling their dog on the street about their favorite Jim Carrey flick. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective earned mixed reviews upon its initial release, so it is almost funny to see how beloved it has become among fans despite this fact. Nevertheless, the film remains a hilarious detective satire.
Reviewers and viewers alike had a major effect because of Carrey’s performance. Not only did it initiate the actor’s cinematic career, but it also initiated a franchise. Having said that, what if we told you that Carrey was not the first choice to play such an iconic character?

The original contender for the role is also a legendary figure in the comedy film industry, but his comedic sensibility is nothing like Carrey’s outrageous and wild improvisation.

NFL Legend Dan Marino has made a fortune from the sport but he missed a truly great opportunity to add a few bucks to his net worth. In the 1994 hit comedy film, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Marino played a small role as himself alongside Jim Carrey. The film went on to become a major box-office success and Marino’s involvement may have influenced this success. However, Marino took only a flat fee for the role instead of the more lucrative option of a percentage of the gross of the film.

The former Miami Dolphins quarterback even went on to jokingly claim that he built Jim Carrey’s career with the film and took full credit for it. Marino has one of the highest net worth among the NFL Hall of Famers, despite the Dolphins not taking home a single Super Bowl.

"If you went into a movie called 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective' and you were doing the stuff I was doing in that movie, would you be expecting while you were doing that movie that it was going to be huge?" Jim Carrey asked this to radio shock-jock Howard Stern in 1994 shortly after the actor's movie opened unexpectedly atop the box office. Stern bluntly responded with "No" but it was, in fact, a monster hit. It was one of three such hits that Carrey would be a part of that year, making it one of arguably the best years that any actor has had — from a commercial standpoint — in history.

We haven’t seen the last of Dr. Robotnik.
Jim Carrey will reprise his role as the mad scientist with the formidable facial hair in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.” The news comes despite the fact that (and here there be spoilers) the second film in the series ended with Dr. Robotnik falling from a giant robot to the ground below, a potentially fatal tumble. In the film’s post-credits scene, however, it is revealed that Dr. Robotnik’s body has not been found, setting the stage for Sonic’s main antagonist to make a dramatic return.
The combined global box office for “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” stands at $725.2 million, hence the enthusiasm of Paramount, the studio behind the video game adaptations, for another installment in the franchise. The studio is also making a spin-off series, “Knuckles,'” that will premiere on Paramount+. Carrey’s return was...

It is hard to believe (for people of a certain age), but the year 1994 was 30 years ago! For this week’s poll, we wanted to step back into the time machine and reminisce about what could possibly be considered one of the best years in cinema history. If, like me, you are in your thirties, 1994 holds a nostalgic place due to movies such as Blank Check, D2: The Mighty Ducks, Major League 2, Clifford, The Flintstones, Getting Even With Dad, Little Big League, Angels in the Outfield, The Little Rascals, Camp Nowhere, Richie Rich and Little Giants. The year also represented the huge breakout of comedy legend Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber were all released during that single calendar year.

Jim Carrey wanted to perform from a very young age and when he was just 10 years old wrote to “The Carol Burnett Show” offering his services as an impressionist. While his request was politely declined it would only be another decade before he was all over television with his antic comedic act. He ultimately achieved the brass ring for comedians of this era when he got to appear on “The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.” In 1984 the 22-year-old Carrey was cast as the lead in a TV series called “The Duck Factory” which was supposed to be a star-making vehicle for the actor. Despite its prime placement on NBC’s Thursday night lineup the show quickly failed. Carrey bounced back with small other roles including the lead in the film “Once Bitten” which was a mild box office hit in 1985.

January 1999. One quarter of a century ago. I attended the Golden Globe Awards for the first time (as an accredited member of the press) — and it was a night that I’ll never forget.
Interestingly enough, the most memorable moment of the night for me wasn’t having Best TV Supporting Actress co-winner Camryn Manheim (“The Practice”) quiz me on lines from 1997’s hit comedy “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.”
Rather, it was when I was practically escorted out of the backstage press room for expressing my shock when Lauren Bacall announced Jim Carrey as the year’s Best Drama Actor for “The Truman Show,” beating out the likes of Tom Hanks in “Saving Private Ryan,” Ian McKellen in “Gods and Monsters” and Nick Nolte in “Affliction.” (My money had been on McKellen.)

Some movies just don't seem to age, and "Blade Runner" is one of them. Aside from the fact that the film is one of the most influential sci-fi flicks in cinema history, thanks to the efforts of director Ridley Scott and his production designer Lawrence G. Paull, the 1982 classic remains one of the most stunningly realized films ever made. The immersive world of Scott's dystopian sci-fi gave the impression, as Christopher Nolan once put it, of a "whole world outside the frame of the scene." That's made even more impressive when you consider the production team had a limited VFX budget and constructed most of the sets and visual effects practically.
In other words, "Blade Runner" doesn't look a tad dated even more than 40 years after its debut. Alas, the same can't be said for the cast. The sad truth is that, despite Joe Russo celebrating the inevitable rise of...

Dumb and Dumber is probably Jim Carrey’s funniest film. While The Truman Show, Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind might be better all-around movies, in terms of his comedies, nothing quite beats Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s debut. While Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask arguably made more of an impact on pop culture, both of those films are dated in ways that this isn’t. Jim Carrey is sensational as Lloyd Christmas, a love-struck limo driver pursuing the object of his affections, Lauren Holly’s Mary Swanson, to Aspen.
As hilarious as he is, he’s matched by Jeff Daniels, who plays his best pal, Harry, who accompanies him on his trip in their iconic Mutt Cutts van. The road comedy is scored with a classic alt-rock nineties soundtrack, and some of the rude jokes, which include love-lorn truck drivers, headless parakeets...

It cannot be overstated how huge Jim Carrey was in the 1990s. The rubber-limbed comedian had a massive box office draw, going from "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," to "The Mask," to "Dumb and Dumber." These films helped turn Carrey into a household name — and helped him land a role in a major blockbuster, "Batman Forever." Carrey, with his over-the-top personality, made for the perfect choice to play The Riddler, the puzzle-happy villain with a fondness for the color green.
"Batman Forever" was a kind of reset for the series. After the ultra-dark, ultra-kinky "Batman Returns," Warner Bros. wanted to go a different route with the Caped Crusader. [This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] Have you ever wondered what the world would be like if Jim Carrey‘s filmography was revered like Shakespeare’s catalog? Whether you have or not, Miracle Workers: End Times is giving fans a glimpse at what it would look like with its upcoming episode, “Jim Carrey in the Park.” As star Karan Soni puts it, “In the Big Boom, all art and books and everything were destroyed except for the scripts for Jim Carrey movies. Jim Carey is like their Shakespeare, and there’s a Jim Carrey festival where you put up different Jim Carrey movies as plays.” At this year’s festival, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was selected. (Credit: TBS) The coveted lead role goes to Freya, who enthusiastically wins over Morris (Steve Buscemi). “Freya is taking on Jim Carrey’s role as Ace Ventura, and that was really scary but then really fun to take on,...

This weekend, Rob Savage (Host) brings his adaptation of Stephen King’s The Boogeyman to theaters. But for those of us who were of horror-watching age eighteen years ago (that hurts to say out loud), there was 2005’s Boogeyman… a horror film that launched an entire trilogy.
That first movie was successful enough to spawn both Boogeyman 2 and Boogeyman 3, though both sequels went straight to video here in the States. So, in honor of the upcoming The Boogeyman, let us take a look back at the Boogeymen of old. Even if they are completely and utterly unrelated in every way possible… and we cannot stress that enough.
Boogeyman (2005)
Directed by Stephen Kay, Boogeyman came to us at an interesting time for the horror genre. “Torture porn” was in full swing with Wolf Creek, Saw and Hostel all releasing. PG-13 horror competition included The Grudge, The Skeleton Key and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Given how far reality television has come in the last 25 years, it’s hard not to think about how director Peter Weir’s 1998 film The Truman Show prophesized the TV format’s commercial prosperity. Nowadays, cameras are ubiquitous and with the prevalence of social media platforms and everyone’s persistently online existence, ordinary citizens can feel like the star of their own show broadcast publicly 24/7.
The Truman Show deserves at least some credit, some might even say blame, for ushering in the addictive spectacle of watching people’s lives unfold in real-time, day after day, as a popular form of 21st century entertainment. The big difference, of course, is that most reality show and social media stars are willing participants in their recorded stories.
But in the days before “Survivor” and “Big Brother” and the entire reality genre were omnipresent, how did The Truman Show itself become a reality?

One of the things I really enjoy about researching articles for /Film is finding out about all the different actors who were up for famous parts. Superhero movies are usually pretty good value in that respect and some of my favorite alternative casting choices come from the "Batman" franchise.
In the '80s, Jack Nicholson was always the studio's first choice to play the Joker in Tim Burton's blockbusting "Batman," but there were also some other great names in the frame at one point or another. As much as I enjoy Nicholson's performance, I would have loved to see John Lithgow in the part. I think he would have made the character far more grotesque but, unfortunately, he talked Burton out of casting him during an audition. Tim Curry and Ray Liotta would have also brought a totally different energy to the role.

Crime-based TV shows and movies provide powerful entertainment. But most of them fail to present a true-to-life depiction of how forensic investigators work. According to a former homicide detective, Breaking Bad, CSI, Zodiac, Sherlock, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective all manage to botch significant details about crime scenes.
The forensic details ‘Ace Ventura’ scriptwriters got wrong
In a 2020 interview with Vanity Fair, retired homicide detective Rod Demery revealed several times writers stretched the truth when creating crime scenes for dramatic effect. The former Shreveport, Louisiana gumshoe started by explaining the errors in a clip from the 1994 Jim Carrey comedic romp, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
In the clip, Ventura shows up uninvited to a crowded crime scene. Noting that real crime scenes are carefully controlled spaces, a surprise visitor would never be allowed due to the possibility of contamination. When visitors are allowed, explained Demery, a police officer typically screens them.

Carrey recently listed the 12,700-square-foot property for sale. The comedian purchased the house shortly after the release of 1994’s Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, his first hit movie. The house contains five bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and sits on over two acres of land. The photos of the house also show an outdoor tennis court, a home movie theater, and a pool with a waterfall.

“Cha cha cha cha … Changes!” he added, hilariously referencing the classic David Bowie song.

At the beginning of Frank Darabont's 2001 film "The Majestic" is one of cinema's most tragic scenes about screenwriting this side of "Sunset Boulevard." A hardworking contract screenwriter — "a creative," in modern parlance — sits in the middle of a Hollywood office in 1951, the camera resting on his face. He is withdrawn, only half listening to the people around him. He is evidently surrounded by off-screen executives who are pitching long and elaborate — and completely trite — story ideas for some upcoming production. They talk of heroic dog rescues and weeping love interests and other hackneyed, sentimental ideas. The screenwriter, Peter Appleton (Jim Carrey) eventually looks up, knowing he will have to somehow turn these terrible ideas into a screenplay.
For anyone who has worked in Hollywood, the sequence is equal parts comedic and horrifying.
"The Majestic" then takes a surprising turn. Peter, fleeing persecution from the encroaching Hollywood Blacklist, gets in...
