We’ve talked about Stephen King as the king of horror literature, but there’s another name who is pretty important in the grand scheme of horror. He has had tabletop games, video games, comic book adaptations, and movies made after his work. He has sort of become like John Carpenter in a way. You hear all the time how a movie, or its score in particular, is Carpenter-esque and that has happened to one Howard Phillips Lovecraft. He only lived to 46 and had many works published after his death, but also is the man behind the old gods and the Cthulhu mythos. Even when filmmakers and game designers don’t use creations directly from the author’s work, a lot of horror can be considered Lovecraftian. While some of the more famous ones like Re-Animator and From Beyond are stone cold classics, I wanted to look at an underseen adaptation.

After making history at the DGA Awards for her debut feature “Honey Boy,” director Alma Har’el has announced her follow-up project.
Har’el is set to direct Walter Tevis’ science fiction classic “Mockingbird” for Searchlight Pictures, which is planning a theatrical release for the film.
“Mockingbird” is set in a world without art, children, or books where the human population relies on a love triangle between an android, a man, and a woman. The novel was nominated for the prestigious literary Nebula Award.
“I’ll never forget the first time I read ‘Mockingbird’ on the shore of the Sinai peninsula in Egypt when I was 24 years old,” Har’el said. “Walter Tevis wrote a novel that refuses genre and time, choosing instead to awaken every fiber of your being. This book has changed my life and I’ve been pursuing it for over a decade. I knew that Searchlight was...

South Korea is a powerhouse of creative cinema, and as Sean explains, their films frequently display an emotional core as well as action…
While American cinema is currently filled with comic book films, remakes and sequels, things are not the same elsewhere around the world. As worldwide cinema is becoming less dominated by a constant saturation of American movies, I've noticed one country in particular making its mark in the world of film.
South Korea has seen a rise in its cinema over the past decade, producing movies that are both experimental and entertaining at the same time. It's not just pure movie fans that are recognising it, but Hollywood as well, as it's been trying to produce remakes for some of the most well known of the current generation of South Korean films.
South Korea, in case you didn't know, is the country that's on the southern portion of the Korean Peninsula.

The process of determining which sports will translate into great films has no real rhyme or reason. If you thought that only fast-paced sports like soccer or football could be made into sports (Goal!, Any Given Sunday), then you’d have a hard time explaining all the successful films based on baseball or golf (Field of Dreams, Caddyshack). What sports films of the past have taught us is that even films about running (Chariots of Fire) can be superb with the proper balance of plot, character and wit. Well, Disney certainly loves the promise that holds and has started cranking out sports movies as fast as possible. Up until this point however, most of them (Iron Will, The Greatest Game Ever Played, Remember the Titans) have been narrative based. For Morning Light Disney went ahead and made a Reality TV formatted film about sailing and, well, the results are mixed.
