Didn't work for me
Petey-1013 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
God speaks to laundress Hartikaiska while she's washing the laundry on the ice.She quits her job and gives birth to a daughter, Eeva.As Eeva grows up, she gets married and is soon widowed. She starts running her husband's corporation and starts dreaming of a place called 'Paradiso Baltica'.She lets nothing stand on the way of her dream. The commissioner is the last man she has to handle, and she gives him her daughter, Päivikki. When that marriage doesn't work out, she gets married to him.And soon she is widowed again.Rauni Mollberg is the director of Paratiisin Lapset (1994).Molle was also in the writing process.Kari Rydman is behind the music. It was made in cooperation between the Finns and the Russians. The movie is not without flaws. For a comedy this isn't very funny. And as a drama it doesn't work so good either. When we look at the actors list I liked the best Heikki Kinnunen and the late Helge Herala.Funnyman Kinnunen does something humorous as Veijo Suurmetsä.It's always a pleasure to watch Herala's performance, and he was the reason I borrowed the DVD from a library after his death. In this film he plays the commissioner Eino Raivola, bu sadly he has way too little screen time coming into the picture after the movie has lasted over an hour.Russian actress Tatyana Vasilyeva plays Eeva Salminen.Taru Valkeapää plays her daughter Päivikki.Ria Kataja is in her first movie as Young Eeva.Pertti Sveholm is Antti Kirveli.Asko Sarkola plays the part of Mjölkstrand.Oiva Lohtander portrays Factory Owner.Martti Suosalo is Preacher.Jarmo Mäkinen is Athlete.Music man Raymond Ebanks, who became known with his group Bomfunk MC's, is in his first and this far only movie playing Cleaner.Helge's daughter Heidi Herala plays Cosmetologist.Mollberg himself is seen as Madman. In the sound department Sonja Lumme did the audio dub.I guess the problem of this movie is that you don't care about the protagonist too much.Eeva is unscrupulous woman that seems to have no moral values. This is a movie that you can watch once, but it doesn't leave a big mark.
