Karthik takes after Moohan in versatality . Both were family favourites at one time . This movie is set in late 19th century . Carefree Karthik is the son of the goldsmith prancing around and teasing every one . Ranjita is a nomadic tribal girl staying in that village for a few days running a duck poultry . She is already engaged to her cousin . Both keep meeting on and off and fall for each other . Her tribe is against it .Parallelly the district collector's sister comes to visit from England .She falls for Karthik after a few problems . Some misunderstanding leads her to assume that he too likes her . Ranjani's cousin and Karthik get into a fight . The collector kills the cousin and the blame falls squarely on Karthik . In the end , the collector's sister comes to save him . The lovers unite and all becomes well. I like happy endings . A fine period drama . Karthik looks good in any role - first boyish then mature then sad . Ranjani is good as a non glamorous gypsy. Its not easy to make a period drama . The costumes, the dances, the songs don't go overboard in this . This nomadic breeze stays with us for days after the film is over .

Unbelievable movie making but cinematic end

It's nice screen presentation, dialogues and songs are mesmerizing. But, in the end of the movie can't digest with logically. Anyway, simply superb... From this movie, copycat of some portions recent years movie madharasapattinam.

Finally, not exactly match with this movie, some alterations and impression can't be avoided..

Couldn't sit through till the end

Yeah, this one stunk up the ceiling. How could Bharathiraja even make such a film? And to think that Ilayaraja gave such haunting numbers for this unmitigated disaster of a film. Sure, Ranjitha is a sexy beauty but how long can you suffer Karthik? Go get the tape, forget about watching this one.
