A story of loyalty
hmsgroop29 June 2001
This is a story of a young officer of the tsar army who is about to leave Russia for ever after the revolution of 1917 with his mother and wife. There's terrible chaos at the border, people smuggle out of Russia valuable things and works of art under the very nose of the unsuspecting guards who are untrained for the task. He is very pained to see the wealth and glory of Russia plundered in this way. So, in spite of the fact that his mother crosses the border and calls him renegade and traitor to the white cause, he decides to stay. Gradually he finds a friend among the new border guards.

I firmly believe that the film would have lost much of its charm were it not for Igor Starygin. He used to be one of the most beautiful men on Russian screen, and in this film he is in his prime.
