Leo Doyle (Lorcan Cranitch), a convicted IRA murderer, is released after 14 years in prison on a scheme to rehabilitate former terrorists. When he returns to his hometown, he soon realizes that everything has changed after the ceasefire. He's no longer the 17 year old hero that everybody admired, now he's seen as a terrorist who brought nothing more than suffering and disgrace to his own country. Relationships with his family are difficult and reach a boiling point when they find out he has rekindled his affair with his former fiancée, Roisin (Michelle Fairley), now married with three children. I remember watching "Life After Life" a long time ago, in a cable movie channel. I've always considered it a great film, not only for the superb performances and direction, but the story about losing ideals and also identity.
