Something tells me that I wasn’t the only one tuning in to Tuesday’s Knockout Rounds for The Voice with a certain amount of trepidation — and by “something,” I mean, of course, the comments that followed Monday’s recap. So many of the coaches’ decisions on Night 1 of the Knockouts defied logic that I — and you, too, it seemed — wanted to recommend that they all get their hearing checked. Alicia Keys dropping Lilli Passero in favor of Ashley Levin? Adam Levine keeping Josh West over Johnny Hayes? Quizz Swanigan getting stolen but not Felicia Temple? My head still hurts...

On the heels of Telefilm Canada’s pledge on November 11 that half of its projects will be directed or written by women in a move to close the industry gender gap by 2020, the Whistler Film Festival (Nov 30 — Dec 4) was proud to present an unprecedented number of female focused films, talent, events and awards throughout its 2016 programs.
The festival featured a record 31 (36%) films all directed by women (including 15 feature films out of 50 and 16 short films out of 36). Wff also has 38 (58%) female filmmakers out of the 66 Canadian artists confirmed to date participating in 11 talent programs — including 22 directors, 6 producers, 3 screenwriters, 2 actors, and 5 musicians/bands in the Music Showcase. Switch-Up Week has never been easy on Dancing with the Stars, and that appears to still be true for season 22. "It's kind of like starting at week 1 again," pro dancer Mark Ballas told People on Monday of having to switch partners for the upcoming week of competition. "But that's the nature of the show. there is nothing we can do about it, so there is no use in complaining. We just all get to work!" Instead of being partnered with Ufc fighter Paige VanZant, Ballas will be dancing a Salsa to Eddie Palmieri's "La Malanga" with Good Morning America's Ginger Zee.

Eight women directors from across Canada have been selected to attend the 20th annual session of Women In the Director’s Chair (Widc), which includes the pilot program, Widc Story & Leadership. Over the coming months this top-notch group of content creators will develop their feature films and web series, working with an ensemble of hand-picked professional actors, technicians and other industry experts. A major component of the program takes the form of an Industry Immersion at the 15th anniversary Whistler Film Festival (December 2-6), and culminates with a three-month mentorship tailored to advance each director’s project.
Mounting their sophomore feature films are East coast favorites, Mary Walsh ("A Christmas Fury," based on the characters from the riotously-funny TV series "Hatching, Matching and Dispatching"), Anita Reilly McGee ("Black Mammy"), and Widc Feature Film Award-winner, Jordan Canning ("Suck It Up"). Multiple award-winner Marie Clements is developing a new interactive web series "Crooked Bones," based on the true story of First Nations artist, Connie Watts.
"Widc understands that being committed to bringing women’s voices to the screen means investing in the storyteller. Not simply as a “one off” but as a continued partnership between stakeholders who recognize that the development of skill, process, and creation has lasting and profound value,” states Metis actor/ writer/director, Marie Clements. “I am honored to be in this year’s Story & Leadership Program with some of Canada’s most talented and innovative filmmakers."
Award-winning director Rachel Talalay ("Dr. Who," "Tank Girl") will be one of this year’s key mentors focusing on directing action. Creative Women Workshops Association, The Banff Centre and Actra (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) have been Widc collaborators, and Telefilm Canada has been a major sponsor since the program’s 1997 inception. Widc and the Whistler Film Festival collaborate again through the Widc Wff Industry Immersion.
The Festival’s online box office is now open for Industry Passes, Festival Passes and Ticket Packages allowing you to select your films in advance and share them with friends and family.

When Yeezus marries Keezus, you don't just play "The Electric Slide." Sources tell E! News that not only did Kanye West and Kim Kardashian put together a playlist full of jams to play at their wedding reception, but 'Ye even got on the mic to sing and rap along. But the most important song—the song they danced to during their first dance—was: "At Last," by Etta James. A classic. Some other selections from the playlist. Click play and it's like you're in Florence too: "These Arms of Mine," by Otis Redding (which was turned into a mashup with "At Last") "Superstitious," by Stevie Wonder "Rack City,"...

Now that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are officially married, it's time for the real fun to begin. The party is in full effect at the sweeping Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy, where the couple exchanged vows on Saturday before a wall of flowers - echoing the lavish Mother's Day gift West gifted to his bride earlier this month. Adding to the glamorous backdrop: more than $100,000 worth of floral arrangements from one of Florence's oldest flower shops, Fiori Della Signoria. The shop delivered arrangements to the fort earlier in the day, including tuberose flowers, a fragrant white bloom indigenous to Mexico.

Kimye are just like Us in one respect, at least: Like so many other brides and grooms this year, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West danced to 2014's wedding anthem, John Legend's "All of Me." The big difference? John Legend was there himself to serenade the couple inside their wedding reception at Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy, May 24, a source confirms to Us Weekly. The very first dance, however, was a wild, Kanye-style mashup of Etta James' "At Last" and Otis Redding's "These Arms of Mine" [...]...

A number of crimes involving the male torso went down on Thursday night’s installment of The X Factor. Simon Cowell rocked a neckline that plunged dangerously close to his netherregions. A member of boy band Emblem3 wore suspenders — without a shirt! (I’ll pause for a moment while you fight back the acrid taste of bile). And oh the sounds that got caught and killed in the chests of fresh-faced Willie Jones and wheelchair-bound Freddie Combs! (We’ll just assume the former’s were low and rumbly, in a bebeh-lock-them-dawwrs kinda way, and the latter’s were tremulous and overbaked.

MTV News 'Idol' experts share their choices for Jessica Sanchez, Joshua Ledet and Phillips Phillips.
By Gil Kaufman and James Montgomery
Joshua Ledet and Phillip Phillips on "American Idol"

The "American Idol" season 11 top three have a lot to prove as we head into Wednesday night's (May 16) second-to-last lap.
Likely winner Phillip Phillips has skated through virtually unscathed by pretty much doing a season-long homage to Dave Matthews, while Joshua Ledet has thrilled us with his gritty soul shouting but failed to show much personality along the way (unless you count that one week he wore a flower in his lapel). And Jessica Sanchez? Well, the 16-year-old definitely has powerful pipes and is a diva in the waiting, but she's still not quite ready for prime time.

After creating a loud media buzz about her outrageous - but apparently fictionalized - statements on Twitter, Scout Willis now has something people should be talking about: The girl can really sing. Sporting a clean, blonde bob and a sleek, black spaghetti-strap dress, Willis, 20, the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, took to the stage Thursday night as the lead vocalist in the band Gus + Scout at Manhattan's Rockwood Music Hall. The other half of the duo is Willis's classmate at Brown, Gus Wenner, son of Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner. No stranger to performing with Hollywood offspring, Wenner...

Hello SpoilerTV. I’ve just joined the site as a show expert for Grey’s Anatomy. I’m new to this blog but not new to the show. Love love love it. I’ve written stuff about Grey’s before on my own blog and now have the opportunity to spout my often strong, biased opinions here on whatever subject you want. I love a good debate so feel free to disagree.
If Twitterverse is to be believed Grey’s will start filming Season 8 on 15th July (so says JCap), bringing an end to actor vacations and revving up the promotional PR for us poor long hiatus suffering viewers. But before we speculate about what delights Shonda Rhimes will bring us in September let’s remind ourselves of what happened during Season 7.

So if I'm being honest I have to tell you that I started last night's episode of Grey's Anatomy, "Golden Hour," not really knowing what to expect. I'd read that it was structured in real time, so we would be privy to an hour in the life of Meredith Grey as she worked in the ER. I like Meredith well enough most of the time, but the thought of having her (or any one character) in pretty much every scene? That concerned me.
However, I also knew that the episode was written by one of my favorite Ga scribes, Stacy McKee. Stacy wrote my favorite episode of all-time, "Elevator Love Letter" (519) and she also penned the other concept episode of this season, "These Arms of Mine" (706), which was in documentary style. When fans first saw Jennifer Grey on "Dancing With the Stars," it was hard not to remember her as the iconic Baby from "Dirty Dancing."
Grey had the same problem -- while she rehearsed her first dance, the Viennese Waltz with partner Derek Hough, she was overcome by memories of her "Dirty Dancing" co-star Patrick Swayze, who succumbed to cancer in 2009.
Given the opportunity to reprise a favorite dance, Hough suggested they do the Argentine tango, but Grey decided to take on the Viennese Waltz once again, bookending her time on "Dancing With the Stars."
She wasn't going to thinking about her "Dirty Dancing" days, this time. "This Viennese Waltz, I'm very connected to Derek and what we've gone through together, which has been a lot," Grey said.

Jennifer Grey's experience on "Dancing With the Stars" has come full circle. The first week she did an emotional waltz to "These Arms of Mine," which was her big love scene song with Patrick Swayze in "Dirty Dancing."
Now for the finals, Jennifer and partner Derek did their freestyle dance to "Do You Love Me?," of the infamous "'I carried a watermelon?!'" scene from the same movie. In fact, if you are a student of "Dirty Dancing" like us, you recognized some moves from Johnny and Penny's dance in that scene.

Welcome to TV Fanatic's Grey's Anatomy Round Table, in which our panelists discuss the burning questions from the most recent episode of the medical drama.
The topics for our "These Arms of Mine" Round Table Q&A and Tvf's take ...
1. What was your favorite Grey's Anatomy quote from the episode?
L.J. Gibbs: "Being a hero has it's price." - Yang
M.L. House: I'll go with Sloan's take on the installment: "You picked a good night to start filming. This is gonna be fun." As you'll be able to tell in my following answer, I couldn't disagree more.
Mrs. Northman: Derek: "He
2. The documentary-style filming: Cool change of pace or lame gimmick?
L.J. Gibbs: It was sort of cool, and didn't take away from the episode. Still, it didn't add much, there was no reason to do it, and it felt like a gimmick done just for the sake of it.

Before we begin charting the pain scale for this week's experimental Grey's Anatomy episode, let's start by remarking on the positive aspects of last night's "These Arms of Mine": It was brave for Shonda Rhimes & Co. to switch from a multi-camera format to a documentary style seven seasons into their medical drama -- even if the shaky, handheld cameras felt jarring, intrusive and was the root of a sixty minute headache. And even with the distracting format -- which was used to capture Seattle Grace exactly six months after last season's shooting -- there were several storylines (Meredith and Cristina's, Dr. Bailey's and Karev's) that still managed to be emotionally rewarding. Now let's proceed to this week's especially traumatizing pain scale.

The dust is still settling from an emotional episode last night (see our review of "These Arms of Mine"), but looking ahead to next week, there's a lot more drama on tap at Sgmwh.

Last night’s Grey’s Anatomy was a faux documentary episode, and that for me screamed one thing: ER. If we’re going to go ’90s doctor shows (oh please, let’s), Grey’s more closely resembles Chicago Hope — melodrama, metaphor, more absurd patients, a slower pace. But going documentary-style for an episode is so classically ER in my mind that I can’t help but compare the two.
ER’s documentary episode was “Ambush,” the fourth-season premiere that is probably better remembered as the show’s live episode. (If you’re wondering, yes, it really does hold up.) Like Grey’s,...

Last night’s episode was different than anything we’ve ever seen before on Grey’s Anatomy. Like one of my favorite comedy shows, The Office, the doctors had cameras following and taping their every footsteps for a documentary called Seattle Medical.
In the beginning, I wasn’t sure that I liked this storyline/documentary, but as it progressed, I rather enjoyed it. In this day and age, this type of documentary publicity wouldn’t be so shocking and it brought more reality to what’s been going on in the show.
“These Arms of Mine” definitely wasn’t my favorite episode of the season so far, but it did bring an ending to the Mary chapter in Bailey‘s life.
I knew something bad would happen, but I really was surprised they killed Mary!
Mary’s poor husband had to deal with almost losing her in a mass killing,...

Painful memories of last season’s bloodbath still linger at Seattle Grace.
As we know and have seen in various sneak preview clips, a camera crew invades the hospital this week to film a documentary about the ongoing recovery efforts, and the entire episode is shown to us from the Pov of the filmmakers, offering a voyeuristic vibe.
“You actually feel like you’re getting a behind-the-scenes look at our characters’ lives,” series creator Shonda Rhimes tells Entertainment Weekly. “You get to see our characters in a very different way, because we’re approaching them in a very different way.”
Alex's character development continues in this week's docu-episode.
Rhimes has long toyed with the notion of doing a docu-style installment, but it was co-executive producer Stacy McKee who wrote the episode and executed the plan.
“Stacy was obsessed with [ABC's docu-series] Boston Med,” notes Rhimes. “She came in one day after watching an episode and said,...

It was a serene performance. Not to sound cocky or anything, but I knew it was going to be a good dance for her because it fit her so well. "But at the same time, you never know how she's going to do either. Jamie Lee Curtis is considering a return to the dancefloor after watching Jennifer Grey strut her stuff on U.S. TV show Dancing With The Stars.
The actress, who played a keep-fit aerobics instructor in 1985's Plenty, was in the audience for the season premiere on Monday, cheering on Dirty Dancing star Grey.
And she enjoyed the experience so much, she plans to show up weekly.
Curtis tells news show Access Hollywood she declined an invitation to join Grey on the celebrity dancefloor this series, but seriously considered the challenge.
She says, "(I said) I won't be able to do it because my family commitments are such that I wouldn’t have the time for it... but it definitely made me go, 'Hmmm.'
"It was fun to think about it."

When Jennifer Grey made her 'Dancing With the Stars' debut to "These Arms of Mine," a track from 'Dirty Dancing,' she was visibly emotional. But, was she sincere? Patrick Swayze's widow, Lisa Niemi, thinks so.

Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey was seen breaking down in tears during her Dancing With The Stars debut, as she was reminded of her late co-star Patrick Swayze.
Grey was rehearsing with her professional partner Derek Hough, when she was informed that their song would be ‘These Arms Of Mine.’ Jennifer had previously danced to the track in Dirty Dancing and she started to sob as she remembered Swayze, who died of pancreatic cancer last year.
She cried:

Jennifer Grey broke down in tears when she first heard the song she would be performing to on "Dancing with the Stars" - because it reminded her of late pal Patrick Swayze. The "Dirty Dancing" actress made her debut on the reality TV show on Monday night, September 20, performing a Viennese waltz to Otis Redding's "These Arms of Mine", which appeared on the film's soundtrack.
But when Grey, who played Frances 'Baby' Houseman opposite Swayze in the 1987 movie, first heard the track in rehearsals she broke down because it made her miss her co-star. In pre-recorded footage, Grey is seen crying and telling her professional dance partner, Derek Hough, "It took me back in a time capsule, and I was with Patrick. I just missed him. He was like you, young and gorgeous."
But the star triumphed in the live show - picking up the highest scores from the judges on the night.

"But I thought that dancing to These Arms of Mine... first of all I think that she did every bit as good a job as I thought she would and then some. Jennifer is a natural talent and she brought this kind of special sensuality... I was super thrilled."...

Jennifer Grey waltzed her way to the highest score of the evening at the premiere of Dwts. She performed to "These Arms of Mine", a song she helped make famous with Patrick Swayze in "Dirty Dancing."

Patrick Swayze's widow Lisa Nieme, tuned in to support Jennifer and spoke with "Access Hollywood Live" about the actress' first dance.
Lisa told Access: "It can't help remind you -- remind me -- of how much I miss him, but when it came to the actual dance, I was with her. I thought that dancing to 'These Arms of Mine,' she did every bit as good a job as I thought she would and then some. Jennifer is a natural talent and she brought this kind of special sensuality.

Jennifer Grey's "Dancing with the Stars" debut may have stirred up a wealth of emotions in the "Dirty Dancing" actress - but she wasn't the only one moved on Monday night.
Patrick Swayze's widow, Lisa Niemi, tuned in as Jennifer and partner Derek Hough performed to "These Arms of Mine" - a song that Jennifer and Patrick danced to in "Dirty Dancing" - and the feelings tied to the performance caught Lisa off guard.

Baby did not carry a watermelon! Bristol Palin may be getting all the morning-after headlines but last night Jennifer Grey -- better known to sleepovers everywhere as Baby Houseman -- stole the show with a number set to 'These Arms of Mine'. Yes! The same 'These Arms of Mine' the famous Dirty Dancing love scene between Baby and Johnny was set to.

Her first dance reduced judge Carrie Ann Inaba to tears!
While the song choice was a cheap tearjerker — she danced to “These Arms Of Mine” from Dirty Dancing — Jennifer Grey, 50, was really the only celebrity who wowed the judges on the Sept. 20 season premiere of Dancing with the Stars. The moving performance earned Jennifer and partner Derek Hough the highest score of the night (24 points) and I only see them getting better from here.
But while Jennifer and Derek were sitting pretty on the top spot, poor Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino tied for last place with David Hasselhoff and Margaret Cho! While his dance was hardly as good as Jennifer’s, I do think the judges were a little harsh on him. For the first time ever, I’m actually finding “The Situation” to be a likable human being — judges, don’t take that away from me!

Jennifer Grey broke down in tears when she first heard the song she would be performing to on Dancing With The Stars - because it reminded her of late pal Patrick Swayze.
The Dirty Dancing actress made her debut on the reality TV show on Monday night, performing a Viennese waltz to Otis Redding's These Arms of Mine, which appeared on the film's soundtrack.
After her dance, panellist Bruno Tonioli said, "Baby is back where she belongs. I know somebody up there is going to be very proud of you."...

One of the performances that stood out last night on Dancing with the Stars was Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough’s Viennese waltz. During rehearsal, Hough informed her they’d be dancing to the song “These Arms of Mine,” which is off the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. Grey burst into tears remembering her late friend and co-star Patrick Swayze, and even judge Carrie Ann Inaba got teary-eyed after the performance! We think these two are definitely early frontrunners! Check out the performance below.

Jennifer Grey certainly didn't shy away from her "Dirty Dancing" past on "Dancing With the Stars" Monday (Sept. 20).
The actress and partner Derek Hough danced a Viennese waltz to "These Arms of Mine," a song featured in "Dirty Dancing." It was an emotional moment for her, and it showed through both in rehearsals -- where she broke down after contemplating the loss of her co-star and friend Patrick Swayze -- and in the dance itself.
All those feelings, however, translated into one of the most powerful performances of the night. The judges thought so too -- Grey and Hough scored 8s across the board to finish with a 24, the night's highest score.
