Super Mario Bros. 3: 2nd best Mario game IMO

I grew up with Nintendo so though it's no longer something I play I will always have a soft spot for it. Super Mario Bros (1985) was a classic platformer and very enjoyable, Super Mario Bros 2 (1988) almost put me off the franchise altogether and I simply didn't enjoy it, Super Mario Bros 3 was a masterpiece I'll never forget.

For a start the game is considerably larger than most that were around at this time, it's a title you need to put plenty of hours into and even then you'll likely not see everything.

With a lot of new mechanics not seen before in a Mario game it added to the dynamic instead of overly convoluting a classic formula like its predecessor did. Mario has multiple suits that assist him in his adventure, the game adds a wealth of fantastic enemies and memorable boss encounters.

Arguably SMB3 is one of the greatest platform games ever made and is a near perfect title that was only followed successfully by them once in this guys opinion. Then it went 3D and it all went downhill from there.

Super Mario Bros.3 is one of those few games that lives with me and I'll never forget yet will happily pick it up any chance I get. Near flawless.

Super Mario Bros. 3 is certainly an impressive game for 1988 standards and holds up as an innovative platformer even today. The graphics, level design and gameplay make for a truly great playing experience.

I never did finish the first Super Mario Bros. (as of yet) and I've never even played Super Mario Bros. 2 but now, after liking this so much, I will seriously have to consider it.

In terms of originality you won't find anything particularly amazing about the jumping of one platform to the next and collecting power-ups but it's how it all comes together and works so well that makes SMB3 stand out from the rest of the competition.

Some levels are tough, but stick at them and you'll memorise and master the tricky bits pretty quickly. However, that didn't stop me from crying out loud in sheer, hopeless frustration every now and again.

The GBA version adds a save function (a godsend for those who hate having to spend 86 hours finishing a game in one go), slightly tweaked levels and compatibility with the Nintendo E-Reader that offers bonus levels.

Considering how good this game is it's no wonder Sonic had such tough competition from a short, fat Italian plumber. Definitely one to hunt down.

SUPER MARIO BROTHERS 3, in my opinion, is one of the best Nintendo games I have ever played. Even though I haven't owned a Nintendo Wii system for very long, I've played this game many times before. To be honest, I enjoy it very much. In addition, even though I've never beaten the game, I still enjoy the game very much. When and if you can get a Nintendo Wii, this game should definitely be on your list of downloads. Before I wrap this up, I'd like to say that the people at Nintendo know how to keep video game fanatics entertained. Now, in conclusion, if you're a video game fanatic, this is definitely one you'll want to play and own.

The absolute best Super Mario video game - EVER!

When I was a young teenager my best friend had an NES, and we used to play this game all the time. It's almost certainly the best Mario game, if not of all platforms than definitely NES. It makes up for the US release of "Mario 2" (which was a stinker) and the gameplay is fantastic -- one player is addictive, fun and well designed with worthy baddies. The two-player is just as enjoyable and chances are you'll lose yourself playing the game.

Nowadays it's kinda hard to find this game although it might be available on Gameboy. If you do happen to come across it I definitely recommend it -- it's a very entertaining, involving game and one of the all-time best for the NES and has created a lasting legacy. When people think of the familiar traits of what Mario is today -- the mushrooms, the caps, the levels, the enemies, Bowser -- it all really started with this.

Very highly recommended.

The best Mario game of all time!

This has to be the best game I have ever played. I started to watch my cousin play it and wondered how he was so good at it. It is really hard to go through the whole game without using any cheats, whatsoever.

Here are the world names in order: Grass World, Desert World, Water World, Giant World, Cloud World, Ice World, Pipe World, and Dark World. The hardest one is of course, Dark World. This world tests all of your skills and has every style of levels you have played so far. If you use a whistle to get there from world 1, then believe me, you have nothing to work with. I would much rather use a whistle in world 5 to get to world 8. The enemies are the same in some cases, but are not limited to Brick Throwing Buzzy Beetles, Anvil Frogs, Fireball Pipe Flowers, Jumping Fireballs, Rotating Cosmic Balls, The many Koopa Kings (in each small castle, at the end of it), and Reversed Bullets. This game is very challenging if you are a beginner and you will probably finish it in about 3 to 4 hours. If you are fairly good at it, it won't take you but 1 and a half to 2 hours.

Playing this game will give you an experience you will never regret. Enjoy it today!

The first Super Mario Bros is a classic game that is still fun to play as of today.Super Mario Bros 2 was good but different from the first and not as good.Super Mario Bros 3 is in my opinion, the best NES Mario game in the series.It is basically the same as the first one,only the graphics are better,I find it more fun to play,it is a bit harder and you can transform Mario into different things such as a raccoon Mario.In my opinion, this is the best Super Mario Bros game and also the best NES game ever.Just like the first game, this one is still fun to play as of today.

Super Mario 3 is not only one of the greatest Mario Video Games, it is one of the greatest Video Games ever.

The plot is pretty simple. Basically you are traveling through eight different worlds in an attempt to rescue Princess Toadstool, nothing new.

Each world is interesting in its own right. There is the desert world, ice world, sky world, and big world.(big world is cool in that all the enemies are much bigger than Mario) The levels are colorful and exciting and there are plenty of times where you must try to solve puzzling situations. Great fun levels.

A great thing about this game is the power ups. You have the mushroom that makes you bigger, and the fire flower that makes you able to shoot out fire balls. There are a lot of new power ups as well, and I stress A LOT. Here is a list of them.

Leaf Gives you a racoon tail and ears and allows you to hover and fly short distances. Frog Suit Allows you to swim great in the water. Tanoki Suit It is an entire full body Racoon Suit that has the same abilities as the leaf plus you can turn into a statue. Hammer Brother Suit Wearing a hammer brother suit you are able to throw hammers at enemies. P Wing Allows you to fly through an entire level.

Another great feature is that you are able to obtain a lot of different items and store them. You can then use them when you are on the menu of whatever world you are in prior to starting a level. Being able to store items and use them when you wish is a great feature.

There are lots of fun games in each world. You get to battle hammer brothers for items and also you get to play a matching N Card game for items and another slot machine game for items.

Gameplay is pretty good but it takes practice. Once you get the hang though it is great fun.

A great CLASSIC video game that is a must play. AWESOME!!!!!

SMB3 is the best NES game of all time

There is no dictionary book to describe how hyped, how good, and how big an impact this game is on the industry. dating all the way back to 1989, a movie, called the wizard was made pretty much to hype the release of the game. the company McDonalds sold happy meal toys related to the game. now according to the Trivia section for the game, those toys are collectors items.

As for the game, it keeps Mario at it's roots, and gives it many extra features that are so awesome, some of it doesn't make sense, but it's fun. like the tanooki suit, based upon an old legendary god who could shape-shift into statues or something, which is what Mario can do if he wears the suit. there's 8 worlds with varying levels or action panels as they're known to this old Nintendo hint book i read.

unlike before, when you were fighting bowser after every world, you're now fighting his children (which ironically, we don't know where they came from) and defeating them on flying juggernauts, which changed spots in the world, sometimes hiding in spots, requiring you to either wait at the castle to pass a turn or beat a level in order to get to the boss.

This game is filled with little bits and pieces, and it would take me hours upon days to explain them all. i've beaten the game, but i haven't seen it all. but even if it didn't have all the things i didn't see, it would still be awesome.

Timeless Masterpiece

Super Mario Bros. 3 is quite simply the best ever video game made by the human race. When I think about super mario, it takes me back to a simpler time, when life was all fun and games. What makes it so special darn special? Its simplicity, engrossing gameplay, super cool villains, wonderful music, eyecandy graphics and chaste storyline makes it stand up to the technological might of todays' powerful XBOXs and Playstations. IMHO, none of todays' games can hold a candle to the sheer panache of super mario bros. Our adorable little Mario did for the gaming world, what the wheel did for the human race, period! End of story! Long live the Legend of Super Mario!

The Best Of The NES Marios

Every Nintendo console ever produced has had its own iconic Mario game. While many would argue that "Super Mario World" was that title for the Super Nintendo, I would say that the distinction belongs to "SMB 3" (as packaged with Super Mario All-Stars). With the possible exception of "Mario '64", "SMB3" may just be the most well-rounded Mario game ever produced.

I could go into a detailed explanation of why this game is so well-renowned, but I think I'll stick to something a bit more esoteric here: Basically, it is just a ton of fun to play! What the original Mario Bros. did for gaming was to show the gamer what true fun playing a TV-based video game looked/felt like. "SMB3" expands on that with even brighter colors, more visually interesting locals, and a good difficultly scale (easy to pick up...really tough to beat!). When I tried playing "SMB 2" or "Lost Levels", I always got the sense that the experience was "work". With this game, though, it was always fun (even on the tough levels!).

I realized this game was originally created for the NES, but I spent 98% of my hours playing on it using "Super Mario All Stars" for the SNES. While I can't say this for many other games, I always felt like this "port" played/looked better on the SNES than it did on the NES.

A perfect game for beginners and hard-core Mario gamers alike!

The reigning 2D platformer king

When I was a kid, Super Mario Bros. 3 was the only video game that mattered. I still remember going to the video store almost every day after school to rent it and always leaving empty-handed. On the day that my mother countered my suggestion that we try one more time by surprising me with my very own copy, I felt like Ralphie when he unwrapped the BB gun in A Christmas Story. Tips and tricks regarding warp whistles and the locations of power-ups dominated my lunchroom conversations. At first, I thought the game was a secret amongst my geeky friends, but eventually, nearly everyone in my class ended up contributing to our discussion.

Why is Super Mario Bros. 3 such a universally loved video game? The simplicity and elegance of its graphics and gameplay is certainly a main reason. Even someone who is new to video games would have little trouble getting past World 1-1 and possibly further. The graphics are simple, colorful and make each item's purpose and each enemy's attack pattern quickly apparent. They also add distinction and atmosphere to each level and world in a way that maximizes the NES' 8-bit potential. As for the controls, they are tight and turn-on-a-dime responsive, not to mention easy to master. It takes no time at all to learn fundamentals such as when to let go of the B button to stop running at just the right moment or how hard to press the A button to execute the right jump. While the first game in the series shares many of these merits, Super Mario Bros. 3 surpasses its predecessor not only by exceeding them, but by allowing players to better customize the gaming experience. The first game has warp zones, but Super Mario Bros. 3's warp whistles take the concept even further, and the game even lets players skip entire levels within worlds. The third game is also even richer when it comes to rewarding players for being ingenious and going off the beaten path. In addition to the secret locations of the warp whistles and prime power-ups like the tanooki and hammer suits, it is possible to gain dozens of extra lives and warp to the final world in less than an hour's time. All of these qualities add up to make a video game that is endlessly replayable as well as challenging enough for the gaming amateur to finish and for the gaming expert to unravel every secret. The 2D platformer is one of the most beloved video game genres, and thanks to the recent explosion of indie gaming, it is still going strong. Regardless, despite many worthy challengers, Super Mario Bros. 3 is still at top of this genre's heap.

One of the greatest of all time that shows Nintendo setting the standard AGAIN

At this point, I'm sure we all know the cultural phenomenon that was "Super Mario Bros" released in 1985. Not only did it save the video game industry, but it also redefined what a great video game can be, as it's still fun to this day. The second game released in 1988 incorporated a new enemy/object throwing mechanic with a heavier emphasis on bigger scope, and if you mix that with the livelier and much improved visuals as well as the diverse gameplay between 4 playable characters, what you have is one of the most pleasant games on the console that, in my opinion, often outshines the first game.

However, because of it being on a seemingly completely different trajectory than the first game (though it still felt like a Mario game at its core), I understand why people may disagree with me on that last remark, because even though I love it to bits, it's still unmistakably different; which isn't a bad thing, but to anyone who wants the classic Mario gameplay they know and love that they discovered in 1985, they'd have to wait 2 years after the aforementioned second game. Was the wait worth it?

Absolutely. It seemingly takes everything great about both of the prior games and perfects them to a level never before seen. The visuals are jam packed full of detail and life, the gameplay has been basically perfected with essential additions in tow, the level design is consistently excellent, the music is forever classic, and the boss battles are much more diverse and fun. By all accounts, this really does seem to be everything a classic Mario game should be, and one that ALL (not some) fans are bound to enjoy, as the gameplay stays true to the first game while also bringing and tweaking some of the gameplay from the 2nd game. Controls and plays exactly as you'd want a Mario game to play with the classic power ups and jump-on-enemy goodness, but you can also grab things like shells and blocks and throw them anywhere you need them to be. It really is not only a natural evolution, but also insanely satisfying and well implemented.

And it's not just what this game perfected that makes it a masterclass. It's also the newness it brings. The Koopalings (the rogue children of Bowser with distinct attributes that work for the evil Koopa himself, who's back) and Boom Boom all make their debut here, and would prove to be some of the series greatest and memorable bosses in the series. This, as well as the aforementioned fantastic level design is made even better with the inclusion of world maps with bonus stages, as it all really makes this game feel that much bigger. But that's not all, as the super leaf (the new power up here) is one of the most consistently fun in the series, as the ability to not only attack enemies with your tail awesome, but so is the ability to fly when you charge the meter by running first. It's an excellent risk and reward power up, as it's easy to use, but hard to master, which you'll want to do to unlock the upgraded version: the Tanooki suit, where you can also turn into a statue temporarily. This isn't to take away from the frog suit or the hammer man power up, as they are also wonderful, with the former being amazing for water levels and the latter being amazing for combat. It's a shame we don't see these power ups more often, because they are some of the best.

Mix ALL of this with the games excellent use of the charming aesthetic of a play, genius way of ending each level with matching cards for extra one-ups, and every great thing from the last two games as well, and it's no wonder why this is still considered by some to be the best the iconic Italian plumber has ever been. It gets everything just right, and there's so much to it, that it's almost overwhelming compared to most other 2D platformers beforehand; which I mean as a huge compliment, because this game shows Nintendo setting the standard for platformers AGAIN. While I personally can't choose which Mario game on the NES is my favorite (since they're all great), this one is undoubtedly the most impressive and the most timeless. If you haven't played this (for whatever reason), please fix that as soon as possible. It really is one of the greatest of all time.

Another ok Mario game

Sigh, yet again, this game is loved for the nostalgia and what it influenced, just like the first game. The controls are still clunky, the bosses, besides Wendy, are weak, forgettable, repetitive, and boring, some of the levels are poorly designed, Worlds 7 and 8 are a major difficulty spike and they suck, and some of the power ups are useless.

So yeah, this is just another ok Mario game that hasn't aged well and is clunky.

The best NES game ever!!

Out of the 3 "Super Mario Bros." games made for the NES, this one is hands down the best one. What can I say? This game is AWESOME!! All new enemies, cool new power-ups (like the Tanooki Suit, Hammer Bros suit, Raccoon,and Frog power-ups), warp whistles, and 8 different worlds. What more could you want? Overall, a superb game.

This gets a perfect 10!

An Honest Review

It was the mother of all games, with a major motion picture staring a major child star to back it all up It was the game that everybody wanted...

... and it lived up to the hype, it was Mario on steroids, and still stands as one of the hands down best Mario game. It was Super Mario with more and, as welcome as Mario 2 was, 3 was a welcome change back to the original style, with elements that hearkened back to Mario before it was super.

It's just a classic and, along with Zelda, Metroid, Contra, and Narc, stands as one of the biggest video game legends to ever grace the small screen.

A great sequel to a great franchise

A great classic that should be enjoyed by everyone. The story's simply Mario and Luigi rescuing Princess Peach from Bowser. In doing so they have to travel through 8 worlds. Each world has an amazing landscape. It ranges from a Desert Land to a Snow Land. You play mainly as Mario though if you have the All-Stars and Advance version you can play as Luigi. As far as gameplay goes it's pretty good. It adds several new elements which help out a lot. You can collect and store items from toad houses in your inventory to use later. Mario can pick up Koopa shells as well as leap when he has enough energy from running. Sometimes the controls feel stiff and can land you in hot water. Mario can feel stiff at times making it hard to jump over things.

Being a 2D side-scroller it's mostly getting from point A to Point B though some levels do throw a curveball by making you go through various pipes or doors in later levels. At the end of most levels you have to collect a card to progress and if you get the same three cards you'll get various extra-lives. There're also mini-games you can play in toad houses to get either extra-lives or power-ups. It's fun but also tricky and even frustrating at times.

The power-ups are awesome! the Super Mushroom, Invincible Star and Fire Flower return while new ones are introduced such as the Raccoon leaf and Tanuki Suit which allows you to fly and whack enemies with your tail. The latter also allows you to turn into a statue which can be used to hide. You can also get the Frog Suit which allows you to swim faster though you'll be even slower on land and the Hammer Suit which allows you to throw hammers as well as avoid taking damage from flames spat on you. The levels are fun and they start out easy though they do increase in difficulty and in some cases get really frustrating. The later airship levels can be tough to get through as there're so many cannons and Bomb-ombs stationed everywhere.

There're also a lost of hidden areas in many levels which makes it fun to look for them and see what they have. Many of them vary from coins to rare power-ups. My only nitpicks are the lack of save feature. Unless you have the Advance or All-Stars version you'll have to play through the whole game if you turn it off. Also the game is fun but it can be frustrating at times. Enemies come out of nowhere and may even ambush you. In conclusion, Super Mario Bros. 3 is a great game. It's nothing short of a classic anyone can enjoy. It's fun, creative and awesome. With that being said I highly recommend you check it out.

Mamma Mia here I go again

The Mario fans had waited in long time for their movie and it is out fresh and new, as like the new Super Mario Bros movie the third Super Mario Bros game makes a big update. Princess Toad is in another castle again with Bowser and his army of evil standing in the way from fields, lakes and down to the underground as you get upgrades like the iconic flying raccoon as hidden gems like the flute. The difficult is growing too as you must do everything to go the final underground levels. If you have an Nintendo NES this is a must buy if you can find this in the second hand stores as there is something for all here.

Mario's Big Adventure

This is one of my favorite video games of all time and it's my second favorite in the series as well as second favorite NES game. This third sequel was just awesome and truly a phenomenon in many ways. I remember when I was about eight I was waiting in anticipation for this sequel and it was well worth it, just when you thought the franchise couldn't get better it does this game really blew me away.

The graphic presentation is great as usual, there is still the cartoon art look but there are a lot more details to make the world and the characters of Mario more defined. Music is great there are plenty of memorable tracks.

The game is challenging, it's no doubt the hardest in the franchise from the variety of enemies old and new like those hammers throwing Koopa Troopas and in the desert level that evil heat seeking sun.

Let alone in each end of the worlds there are the boss battles with Koopa's nasty offspring. The Koopa kids are interesting antagonists though have sadly gotten lost in obscurity as they've never resurfaced in any of the further Mario entries, which is kind of strange when you think about it. Anyway like the look of each of them as their all look unique from one another and each of them have their specialties, much like the Robot Masters from the "Mega Man" games, though like them there really not hard to beat once you know how.

And of course the worlds themselves provide plenty of challenge, however the difficulty in the game is manageable and really isn't so hard once you figure out all the tricks and know what to do here and there you can actually breeze on past the worlds, well almost that last world was a doozy, but at least you won't have such a hard time as before.

One of the things I really love were some of the new power ups which really enhanced Mario's arsenal. From a power up where you can don turtle armor and throw hammers.

But my favorite is the racoon tail and having the ability to fly. However there is a catch to this as you have to give yourself enough speed to fill up your speed gauge and then take off, when your in the air your gauge will remain full but once you descend and land then it's at zero again. It's only when you have the racoon costume the gauge remains full at all times, but all the same watch for turbulence. Still it was just so cool to be able to fly and just go right past enemies and obstacles in the air, just simply having the power to go and land where you need to be just awesome. As well as smash block you can't smash to uncover secret items and treasures.

But the main thing I really love are the worlds themselves which are just beautifully awesome. This entry was slightly revolutionary in a way for the platform adventure gaming genre because it made each stage and level more than just a mere obstacle course but an actual world to explore. This game in a way has a slight RPG element as we see you start with a overworld map and you see how far you have to go from point A to B, this of course was used in many other platform action games throughout the years like the "Donkey Kong Country" franchise.

But it's not as simple as that, as we see have multiple pathways, I thought this was really cool because it gave you a choice in a matter of things. You can choice to complete all the stages in the world if you want too which is fun for anyone that loves a challenge, complete certain amount of stages to get to point B, or simply a different path toward you destination, the choice is yours.

Each of the worlds are unique and cool. As an old saying goes, "whole new ball game", indeed each of the levels really causes you to adapt and adjust as each of the worlds provides new challenges it also mean different ways to play though and win.

Three worlds I really like are the giant world, which I thought was so cool as you got to see giant versions of everything. The underwater world, that just me in the matter as I love the ocean and I'm into scuba diving and what goes on underwater. And strangely the final world which you could call Hell, from the amount of fire there but just simply the whole place is just one big warehouse designed to kill you. Like there was one stage with a parade of tanks you must successfully get though, which I'll admit was tough as there were just bullets bills flying here and there, cannons bursting there it was just crazy.

Mario flies high in this timeless classic.

One of the most beloved games by fans of the Mario Bros franchise and one of the most important games in the entire history of video games, this is Super Marios Bros 3. A game that seeks to experiment with new mechanics, ideas and is not afraid to admit it. It is visibly a game with a story and tries its best to focus on it, but without leaving aside the fun. A game that in terms of fun beats other games. The levels are very creative and some are quite complex, making the game very lively and magical. However, some stages are a complete mess and seem to have been made by fans and this is probably because it was a game that served as a test for future games. It's a great game and visibly amazing.

Super Mario Bros 3 is one the most universally loved games of all time. I appreciate it for the fond memories had and the countless hours spent playing it. In terms of actual game play though, you run, jump, fly, slide, throw fire balls and shells and collect things. The two previous Mario games had been the stepping stones for this masterpiece. I haven't played any of the Mario games beyond this, but I'm sure it's still the pinnacle. Is it my favourite platform game? No, but it's certainly worthy of this rating. That fish thing was always scary!

Masterpiece

Once again we have Mario and Luigi set to save the world again.

This time in Super Mario Bros 3 and my my my it is one of those games never get tired of.

The game has much more replay value than Mario Bros 2 and that is a lot to say about how a sequel is suppose to be.

The game features Eight Worlds each one with different themes to it as well as many levels in the worlds that require you to use all your gaming skills to take on, but you can also skip the levels that are too much for you.

Also with more power ups to use plus new ones with the debut of the Raccoon Tail power, each power up is enough to help you survive the game use them wisely.

The game feature superb graphics with the world levels being great artwork and attention to detail to the backgrounds as well as good character designs. The Sound effects are very superb as well also the game feature classic music.

The Controls remain the same as the first game so it is a easy pick up and play game they did add new features where you could access your power ups you get from visiting Toad and his Mushroom houses which are a big help in the game.

The game is does have some issues like some of the enemies are too powerful and they can present many problems in terms of fighting.

The Game Play is still as strong as ever because Mario is one of those series that you can't just turn away you have to pick up and play.

Overall Super Mario Bros 3 is a must have for any fan of Mario

This has to be the best of the first three Super Mario games. There are many exciting new levels and enemies. There are also all kinds of secrets in the eight levels of the game. Also, the Mario Brothers get dozens of new power ups in addition to the classic fire flower and star. It's always a challenge to play this game. It's been over a decade since this game came out and it's still one of the best games ever. Track down a copy of this classic!

Super Mario Bros. is one of the most famous video games of all time! The characters, the jumping, the power-ups, and the sure thrill of adventure makes this entire series a fun non-stop playing time! Below is a brief look how I think the game is!

Game Play: The game play is very good. There is really basic controls here and is easy to perform. Novice gamers should have a good time here!

Graphics: The graphics are wonderful. The backgrounds are really beautiful!

Difficulty: The game is easy but as it goes on you''s find out that it will become more difficult!

Music: The music is great! Just fantastic catchy tunes through out the game! In My opinion its some of the best music ever in a video game!

Sound: The sound is great. Nuff said!

Overall: I have always loved Super Mario Brothers! If you like excellent adventure games then I strongly recommend you play this game!

I love playing this game. Now that we have a real Gameboy, you can actually save your game and play more of it later. It's impossible to play the entire game, without skipping any of the lands, in only a few hours.

In the Nintendo version, you have to play everything at once. It's hard to win the game then, especially if you have a limited time on the game.

I actually finished this game recently. I played all seven worlds, plus Dark land, which was very difficult, and finished every level by myself. It wasn't easy, especially the final level when you have to defeat Bowser. That took me a long time to do.

But if you like a challenge, this is the game to play.

10/10.
