Hilarious and original treatment of three men in their 30's
hurstlacey18 March 2001
They even slightly resemble that trio of fellows that used to run on TV on Thursday nights. But the resemblance is only on the surface. Stuart Hyson Culpepper has crafted a serious exploration of issues such as fatherhood, immortality and death within the framework of witty, quick dialogue between men, the kind of stuff said when women aren't listening.

This movie deserves wider distribution, and may prove to be the "She's Gotta Have It" of Stuart Hyson Culpepper's career.

The Origin of Many People

I am writing about a movie that I saw 22 years ago. I do not remember every detail of it, but I was immensely moved by what I saw, as it describes expressions of friendship and love in a very natural way and contrasts personal dramas, like a young boy's and a dying woman,'s which are deeply related to all, and ultimately united by the flow of energy and affection that emerges from the well-defined characters, played very well by the whole cast.

When I saw the film, I showed it to young people from Panamá who were close to me, some were my students, some had graduated from film schools, while others were models or actors, and they were all struggling to find a way to express themselves, make a product that would represent them and their generation well and find, in a way, the direction of their lives. "The Origin of Man" had the same effect on them as it did on me, and collectively we made "La estación seca", a little film that is very dear to me, which you can find in a popular social media platform.

Thanks to Stuart Hynson Culpepper we all did the right thing.
