A Modern Day Fairy Tale in NYC
camilletuc30 September 2003
After a night of tequila and good music, a guy has one night of passion with a dream woman. He wakes the next morning to find her gone, but she left her shoe. It's a very sexy, expensive shoe-- which he believes is owned by a very sexy, exciting woman-- if only he could remember who she was. He goes on a journey through the streets of Manhattan to find her to unexpected results.

This little short was beautifully shot, wonderfully acted and crafted. When the guy went on his search the director used a collage of beautiful women with an infectious score. This was my favorite part, because it portrayed Black women in such a beautiful light, which I rarely see in film. I loved the message that we're all looking for our "Cinderella"-- we do it all the time. In every face, we are looking-- could that be him? Could that be her? Every woman was stunning, but he still had that burning question-- is she the one? He showed the shoe to several women and they thought he was nuts. Good laughs. I've never seen a film with African American leads that had such innocence and charm. Overall, the story-telling was truly unique and the twist on the end... perhaps I could see it coming, but I enjoyed the ride so much, I didn't care. I LOVED THIS FILM.

i actually remember seeing this at some festival and it giving the few of us in the theater a good laugh... unfortunately for the filmmaker, however, it was for all the wrong reasons. trite storytelling, overly dramatic acting, nap-inducing music... this movie has it ALL. its saving grace was its short length. in a nutshell, it's a student film (or at least i hope it was) that never came even remotely close to proving why it needed to be made in the first place. yes, this is harsh, but after reading what was written above, i feel fellow surfers who stumble upon this page might appreciate a review from someone who isn't A) in the movie, B) related or friends with the filmmaker, or C) on crack.
