Nightmare Creatures!
Movie Nuttball26 January 2005
Nightmare Creatures is one of the most exciting action video games! The characters, the action, the scariness, and the sure thrill of excitement makes this game a fun non-stop playing time! Below is a brief look how I think the game is!

Game Play: The game play is very good. There is really basic controls here and is easy to perform. Novice gamers should have a good time here!

Graphics: The graphics are wonderful especially for the Nintendo 64 System! The backgrounds are really beautiful!

Difficulty: The game is easy but as it goes on you find out that it will become more difficult!

Music: The music is great! Just fantastic catchy tunes through out the game! In My opinion its some of the best music ever in a video game!

Sound: The sound is great. Nuff said!

Overall: I have always loved Nightmare Creatures! If you like horror and fighting action adventure games then I strongly recommend you play this game!

You should definitely play this game.

This game is amazing... The concept of mixing horror with that hack n' slash action combat that is, of course, very well achieved, is wonderful. Love it. And what can I say about that horror dark 19th century London setting, it's simply impeccable. Without leaving aside the sound environment, it's very well achieved.

Now, the combat can be difficult to understand at first (mostly because of the typical PS1 controls that haven't aged very well), but once you understand it and you start doing some combos it becomes VERY enjoyable. As you play the game you will notice certain details in combat, when you make a strong attack you can cut the limbs of certain enemies, and depending on where you hit them, you will cut a certain limb, and depending on the limb you cut, it will affect their movement and will hit you in one way or another, definitely remarkable for a game of the time... Oh, and the items, despite being quite simple, are very efficient depending on the situation or enemy you encounter, all of them are useful and work perfectly.

This game, in my opinion, is extremely replayable, due to the fact that it has many "hidden" places and a very masterable combat. Not to mention that it has another "campaign", as the game features 2 main characters, "Ignatius" and "Nadia", both of which have their own stories, move sets and special attacks. However, the overall plot and main objectives remain the same for both characters.... Kinda like Devil May Cry 2. (I'm just comparing this specific aspect of the game, Nightmare Creatures is infinitely better than DMC2, lol).

Now, if I had to highlight something negative about this game, it would definitely be how "complex" it could be to understand and master the combat, despite not being anything out of this world, it can certainly be complex for people who are not entirely familiar with the typical controls the PS1 had... Also, the game is quite simple, it's mostly a linear action game in which on your way you encounter a bit of enemies and eventually a boss (bosses with mostly simple attack patterns). The levels are pretty simple, nothing out of this world.

So... In conclusion: Pretty GOOD graphics for the time, it has 3 bosses + the final boss, which in my opinion are pretty good, with some simple attack patterns, with some slight elements of platforming and puzzles, which is pretty enjoyable and perfectly playable today. That mix of hack n' slash action + gothic horror setting is just wonderful.

Overall a relatively simple game, with just enough content to make a good game. Despite having some bad stuff that can make the experience a little more limited than it already is (adrenaline system, *cough*, *cough*...), with that incredible atmosphere, music and combat, it's a damn good game and one of my favorite PS1 games, it's beautiful.

This game was a nightmare to me.

This game had an awesome opening and I was ready for one helluva game when I started playing. Unfortunately, I could not progress past the first level of game play. I am not going to say I am a very good gamer, I am not. I do play a lot of games and with a game of this sort it is hit or miss on whether I will be able to do anything. I have one every Resident Evil that I have played and I have won every Tomb Raider, but there are games of this type I cannot progress very far such as Deathtrap Dungeon made by the same company as Tomb Raider. However, I can make it further in that one than I did in this one. Perhaps I will buy this game and try again as for reasons unknown I keep buying older games on now defunct systems. This one like I said starts out with a bang as a mad scientist type has been doing experiments that results in said nightmare creatures! The doctor bears a striking resemblance to Dr. Freudstein from the horror movie "House by the Cemetery" to me. Sounds great, looks great, but I just could not get used to the controls enough to get by the first level boss. I have given this game a score of four, but should I find it and by it it may go up if I can get the hang of it. The graphics are very good for a PS game, the music sets the right atmosphere, the only problem for me was the controls which made that first boss impossible for me to defeat. Great concept as you are running around a Gothic looking town, so me getting this game is a huge possibility.
