Ella Fitzgerald does not appear in this special....the rest of the cast is correct

This is a great special totally honoring the Duke of Ellington.. It's totally a shame that can't restore this and put it out on DVD. Given the historical significance of this treasure. Paula Kelly (Night Court) does some pretty good dancing. Billy Eckstine, Sammy Davis Jr. Sarah Vaughan Paggy Lee and Aretha Franklin do outstanding vocals.... Roberta Flack too. (love her rendition of Lush Life) Ray Charles shines with the solo performance of "I Like The Sunrise" then jams on the duet with Aretha. Sarah Vaughan is in top form with her solo of Caravan.. Billy Eckstine with Sophisticated Lady.. all in all This really should be out on video, but sadly it's not ...just sitting there in the vaults at CBS. I guess its been so long the listing says Ella Fitzgerald is in it..however she is NOT. If you do see this gem..enjoy it is a part of musical history, as Duke passed away a year later..Plus Tony Bennett is not in this special either... they got that wrong too..

E for Excellent Ellington

So right to say that you will love this recording madly...if you can ever chance upon a copy. I saw it ONCE as a child and it was one of my musical memories to keep always. When Duke plays a medley and goes into Things Ain't What They Used to Be, the crowd's roar sounds like liftoff of a jumbo jet, with everyone rocking and clapping along to the beat. Duke's likable air of superiority during the whole thing is one of the mysteries - you can't help being charmed by him as he coolly accepts his dues and blows kisses. He also does the finger snapping "We Love You Madly" bit which was the standard close to his shows. It is a wonderful program and it is a crying shame keeping the film from a general release.
