[Editor’s Note: The review below contains spoilers for “Fargo” Season 3, Episode 6, “The Lord of No Mercy.”]

Gloria Burgle to the rescue!
After an episode of incredible tension and unexpected tragedy, we didn’t realize how badly we needed to hear Carrie Coon say, “Screw it,” whip the cruiser around, and high-tail it back to “the P.O.’s domicile.” While the simultaneously ominous and uplifting strings certainly served to get our hearts beating, “Fargo” may as well have played Bonnie Tyler’s famous “Footloose” jam “Holding Out for a Hero” — because one is on the way!
It’s just we had to hold out a little too long. Just enough road blocks were thrown in front of Burgle to keep her from cracking the case earlier, and all that time led to an inevitable tragedy. Ray (Ewan McGregor) is the first major victim of Season 3 (unless you count the annual pilot sacrifice of Scoot McNairy’s Maurice Lafay), in a particularly well-orchestrated offing. First...

Who’s Gonna Love Me Now?, simply, is a film that gives a new definition to the power of cinema. Ride through this cliché with me for a moment, for when people usually say ‘the power of cinema’, they mean being overwhelmed purely by the visual; the opening scene of La La Land or the space tunnel in 2001.
In contrast, this film, directed by Barak Heymann, Tomer Heymann & Alexander Bodin Saphir – is the story of an Israeli man, his nation, his sexuality, and his choir, wears cinema like a suit of armour. The presence of the cameras gives Saar the courage to confront his parents, who threw him out his kibbutz as a teenager, and the film’s best scenes show these confrontations, with his family boxed in by the camera’s lens and forced to answer to the way they’ve treated their son and their brother.

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman was silly, joyful fun. We take a fond look back at the 1990s series...
A flash of red cape, the S sitting proudly on the chest, the warrior of Truth, Justice and the American Way, Superman has always been the most recognisable and iconic of all the superheroes. After many changes on-screen over the years from the All-American hero in the 1978 movie to the recent darker and moodier version, you'd be hard pressed to go anywhere on the planet and find somebody who had never heard of the Man of Steel.

Back and 2011, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the David Fincher-directed adaptation of the first book in the Millennium Trilogy (which has since been renamed the Lisbeth Salander Series) hit theaters. The movie starred Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig, both of whom gave stellar performances to these beloved characters. In the eyes of some fans of the source material, the movie was even superior to the original Swedish film — which was already a pretty high bar.
For one reason or another, however, the film didn’t perform too well. It made over $232 million worldwide, but with a production budget of $90 million, and what we can assume is around a $90 million marketing budget, it would have had to net over $180 million in order to make a profit. Taking into account the theaters’ share of the gross, the film likely resulted in a loss of about $25 million.

Cookie, get the broom!
Look, Empire‘s Hakeem Lyon has as much right to a sibling squabble as the rest of us. But when Babyface Finster allows his sicko daddy (aka the dude who dropped a nuclear bomb on Hakeem’s wedding a few months back — with a dead sister-in-law literally dropped on top for good measure!) to get in his ear and spur him into a very public, verrrry homophobic rant against brothers Jamal and Andre, I can’t be blamed for wanting the family matriarch to knock some sense into her youngest.

So after one false start (Green Lantern) and several years of waiting, the DC Extended Universe -- Warner Bros.' long-awaited response to the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- is officially underway. Though, while this may be the case, it'd be an understatement to say that, to many, the films haven't lived up to their full potential. The theatrical cut of Batman v Superman featured a muddled plot, and Suicide Squad (while still an enjoyable film in my eyes) was a bit of a mess as well on a few different levels.
As a result, the DC Films infrastructure has had a bit of a shakeup, with Geoff Johns taking the head role, resulting in some pretty hefty changes in the upcoming Justice League film.

We live in a world of reboots and remakes. Everything that we grew up on -- that is now old -- is new again. Last year, we had a Star Wars film, a Rocky film, and the return of the Jurassic Park franchise with fun reboot, Jurassic World (cue the comments claiming the movie was stupid). While there is something special about taking an old concept and reinvigorating it for a modern audience, filmmakers are usually careful to imbue these reboots with plenty of homages to the original material.
So what about the next Jurassic World film? In the first one, we saw Ian Malcolm's book on the desk of Jake Johnson's character, but there was no real reference to Jurassic Park's original protagonist, Alan Grant, portrayed in Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III by actor Sam Neill.
So will be seeing this character return to the...

It’s been five years since David Fincher released “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” and Sony hasn’t been in a particular hurry to make a sequel. The film was expensive to make, and the studio and director clashed throughout the production, and while the box office returns were respectable, it wasn’t the smash hit Sony was hoping for. Thus, the return of Lisbeth Salander became a question mark.

You asked for Where Are the Women? tees for men, and here ya go. (Go here for the women’s tees.) Help support my Where Are the Women? project and stick it to the Hollywood man at the same time. (10% of the purchase price of these shirts goes to me, so let’s get these puppies selling in the millions, eh?) Choose from “Heroine addict” or “Holding out for a heroine,” or “I’m her supporting character.” (The top of the superheroine’s head is not actually sliced off, like it appears in the “heroine addict” design. That’s just an artifact of Zazzle faking shaping the design to the contours of the model’s body.)
Thanks to Danielm80 and RogerBW for their suggestions.

There’s no stopping Queen Cate. Masterful, elegant, and oozing talent, Cate Blanchett is one of our generation’s greatest actresses. Now, with two Oscars under her fashionable belt, she’s going for a third thanks to her latest role in the 1950’s drama Carol.
Blanchett is an actress like no other, who can effortlessly convince us she’s the Queen of England in Elizabeth and Elf Queen of the Forest in The Lord of the Rings, a hot mess in Blue Jasmine, and classic screen queen Katherine Hepburn in The Aviator.
Sure, there’s been a few missteps along the way – while Blanchett totally nails lip syncing to “Holding Out for a Hero” while chopping vegetables in Bandits, the rest of the film is utterly forgettable. We like our Blanchett to be in the spotlight and in control, or at least really, really evil and well-dressed like her scene-stealing...

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a little girl in possession of a good imagination must be in want of a heroine. At least, this was the truth of my childhood. Like many people of my generation, my early pop culture intake was a healthy mix of Disney (this included an extensive library of worn-out VHS in the classic white plastic clamshell packaging), Saturday morning cartoons (from DuckTales to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Japanese imports repackaged for North American kids (Power Rangers, Speed Racer). But my one true love was science fiction. And anyone familiar with my work on this website could probably guess that this love begins and ends with Star Wars. Or really, it begins with Princess Leia.
I don’t remember my first viewing of the original trilogy; it exists in my memory as a constant presence. And like any healthy child weaned on TV and movies,...
