While it's no small feat that The Fate of the Furious finished atop the box office for a third weekend in a row while crossing $1 billion worldwide, Pantelion's How to be a Latin Lover and Great India Films' Baahubali 2: The Conclusion are stealing some of the spotlight as the two films finished in second and third place at the domestic box office, despite the fact the two films played in just over 1,500 theaters combined. Additionally, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 got off to a healthy start overseas, one week ahead of its domestic debut. With an estimated $19.3 million, Fate of the Furious sees its domestic cume grow to $192.7 million, earning a third weekend atop the domestic box office. Of course, the bigger story is the film became Universal's fifth title to top $1 billion worldwide, joining the ranks of Jurassic World ($1.67 billion), Furious 7 ($1.52 billion), Minions ($1.16 billion) and Jurassic Park...

Original Story:
Not everybody was as nuts about the recently-released Fate of the Furious film as I was. However, no mater where you fall on the spectrum in terms of that action-packed piece of escapism, most seem to agree on one thing: Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham have amazing chemistry together.
It makes sense, as the plot seemed perfectly contrived to bring out that antagonistic relationship between these two. On one hand, you have a full-on criminal, and on the other, a lifelong law enforcement loyalist. When forced to team up, there’s bound to be some conflict. Once critics first got to see that film, there was buzz of a potential spinoff that would see those two team up again.

We've known for years that Universal Pictures was planning a Fast and Furious spinoff film with Dwayne Johnson. Then in 2015, we learned that various storylines have been written for several characters. Then rumors started growing that a film was being developed that would center around Dwayne Johnson's Hobbes and Jason Statham's Deckard. It was most recently reported that a scene was actually shot for The Fate of the Furious that would set up that spinoff. This apparently pissed Vin Diesel off and Universal ended up cutting it from the film.
Well, today Deadline is reporting that the Johnson and Statham spinoff is moving forward! This is the spinoff that the studio is excited about pursuing. According to the report, it's in the early stages of development and franchise writer Chris Morgan will be scripting the film.

Fast & Furious 8 is another enjoyable, big, noisy blockbuster that makes an unexpected lunge towards comedy...
I’ve got a theory about the Fast & Furious films. I call it the ‘Vin Diesel pub theory’. My suggestion is that the Fast & Furious films as we see them aren’t the events as they take place in the Fast & Furious cinematic universe (Ffcu). Rather, they’re the events as told by an aging Vin Diesel in a pub in the Ffcu. Every time he tells a story he gets further and further from the truth. Perhaps it started with him playing up his street racing experience in the first film. As the crowds have gotten bigger, now he’s a superman flipping cars through the snow and fighting Charlize Theron over a bastarding great submarine.

Earlier this year, the much anticipated box office juggernaut Furious 7 was released, and proceeded to break box office records on it’s way to a whopping $1.5 billion worldwide gross. This was great news for two of the film’s stars, The Rock (Never Dwayne Johnson, just The Rock) and Vin Diesel. They had just been a part of a groundbreaking money machine, so surely this success would carry over to their solo efforts, right? Yes and no. Both action heroes had come from similar narratives – good money in franchises, but failure with solo efforts (and both have two of the most entertaining social media presences, for what it’s worth) – but only one would overcome their woes. The Rock finally broke his cold slump at the box office, but Vin Diesel remained stale. 2015 has had plenty of interesting box office narratives, but none quite so Shakespearean as that of The Rock and Vin Diesel.

Now more than ever before Dominic Toretto and his gang… sorry, family, since he reminds us of this many times… feel less like a ragtag group of hijackers and car thieves and more like a group of superheroes. After seven films of watching these guys narrowly escape death and drive cars under oil tankers and jump through buildings and take down a military jet and even a tank, it seems almost inevitable for the series to embrace the fact that this is a family of super-powered beings that got hit by a radioactive car. Of course, these characters have a lot of heart and are all given amiable character scenes and traits, but in Furious 7, now more than ever before, their logic and gravity-defying stunts reach new heights. Quite literally, as a matter of fact, since we see these cars get dropped from the sky and fly through not one but two buildings.

Though the film isn’t due until next April, that hasn't stopped Fast & Furious 7 star/unofficial publicist Vin Diesel from showing off images from the latest entry in the franchise. He’s back with a couple of images this week, delivered as ever via his Facebook page. According to Diesel, he has also seen the first trailer for the film, directed this time by James Wan. It appears he’s happy with what he saw, adding in a comment that calls it “incredible”. “I must also say, that it was emotional and bittersweet... we all went above and beyond to make Pablo proud, but man, I wish he could see what we have created and just how far we have come.”“Pablo” is, of course, his late friend and co-star Paul Walker, who sadly died in a car accident during time off from the film last year. The Fast & Furious cast and crew have marked finishing production by releasing an open letter.
Describing themselves as a "family", the letter is a thank you to fans for their support since the death of cast member Paul Walker.
"There was a time when we didn't know how we could go on, or even if we should," it reads. "But we listened to you, and you inspired us not only to keep going but to try and make the best Fast & Furious movie yet."
The heartfelt Facebook post also credits cast member Vin Diesel for his strength which moved the cast "forward when we needed it most".
Walker passed away in a car crash in California, when he was travelling as a passenger in a car which lost control and hit a lamp post, before bursting into flames.
The actor's brothers completed Walker's scenes in Fast & Furious 7, which was in production when he died.

Filming finally wraps on "Fast and Furious 7" this week after a long and tumultuous production. The tragic death of star Paul Walker and the subsequent reworking of the film led to delays and, inevitably, high emotion and tension on the set when things came back together to finish it off. Now, the official Facebook page for the film has been updated with a letter and new photo of Vin Diesel to mark the occasion. Here it is:

When star Paul Walker perished in a car crash last year, the entire future of the Fast & Furious franchise was thrown into jeopardy, with many wondering whether the series could even continue to release installments in good faith given the circumstances of Walker’s death. Eventually, the decision was made to resume production on Fast & Furious 7, altering Walker’s role and bringing in his brothers to help finish his scenes. Now, at long last, the film has wrapped production, after what was undoubtedly an extremely emotional and difficult shoot for all involved.
For those of you who have followed the film closely, you might remember that this is, ironically, the same week that the movie was originally scheduled to be released. Now that production has finished, and to both mark the occasion and honor Walker’s memory, the cast has released a statement on the franchise’s official Facebook page,...

Director James Wan has wrapped production on Fast and Furious 7. It was a really long and hard road for them to make this movie, especially after Paul Walker passed away. I imagine it wasn't easy for anyone to make the decision to keep going and finish the movie, but it is something the fans wanted, and it was the right thing to do to pay tribute to Walker. The cast and crew crew of the film sent out a heartfelt message and photo of Vin Diesel to all of the Fast and Furious fans out there. Like I said this morning, I expect the first trailer for Fast & Furious 7 to play in front of 47 Ronin when it hits theaters on Christmas Day. This film looks like a tax write-off waiting to happen and if they can lure more people into theaters with the promise of a first look at the next Fast film why not do just thatc yt id ="b7EZL6hUmlE" width="500" From ancient Japan's most enduring tale, the epic 3D fantasy-adventure 47 Ronin is born. Keanu Reeves leads the cast as Kai, an outcast who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of 47 outcast samurai. Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors.

As Fast 6 arrives on disc, we interview director Justin Lin about leaving the franchise, long runways, Community and Highlander...
When Justin Lin clambered aboard the Fast & Furious franchise with 2006's Tokyo Drift, it was in a very different state. Although still undoubtedly popular, its original stars had gradually drifted away, and it's just possible that, in less secure hands, it could have drifted into straight-to-dvd oblivion. Instead, Lin managed to not only gradually tempt the cast from the first two films to return in Fast & Furious 4, but with Fast Five, take the street racing series in another direction altogether.
A larger-than-life heist movie with added Dwayne Johnson, Fast Five breathed new life into the franchise, and became one of the ten top-grossing movies of 2011. This year's Fast & Furious 6 (or Fast Six, or Furious Six, depending on who you speak to) was an even bigger hit,...

It's strange to think that it's well over a decade since the Fast franchise began. But like a juggernaut rolling down a hill, this ageing series shows no sign of slowing down; in fact, this year's Fast & Furious 6 will be joined by yet another sequel, Fast Seven, due out in cinemas next year.
But given that the Fast movies now have such a long history, with various stars fading in and out of them as the past decade has rolled on, perhaps it's a good time to look back at how the series has evolved, and work out how its events will lead up to Fast & Furious 6...

First up, Variety is reporting that videogame studio Electronic Arts is looking to make a feature film out of their racing game Need for Speed. They’ve hired John Gatins, behind last year’s Real Steel and Robert Zemeckis‘ upcoming Denzel Washington drama Flight, to begin work on a pitch.
Currently Warner Bros., Sony and Paramount are vying for the property, which I remember loving to play as a kid. If I recall, the big draw for me compared to other videogames, was the inclusion of cops on your tail in the Hot Pursuit series of the games. One would have to expect this element to be included in some sort of capacity for the feature. It’s been awhile since I’ve picked up the controller but the latest iteration,...

Every year, brilliant movies are utterly ignored by the Oscars. The Searchers, Groundhog Day, Persona, Breathless, Hoop Dreams, King Kong, Caddyshack — the Academy has a long history of overlooking comedies, action movies, horror flicks, artsy foreign films, and documentaries that aren’t about World War II. This year, we’ll be taking a closer look at films that were too small, too weird, or perhaps simply too awesome for the Academy Awards. These are the Non-Nominees.
The Film: Fast Five, the fifth film in the unexpectedly long-lived Fast & Furious franchise, starring basically every actor who has ever been in a Fast film.

Science fiction isn't all 'talking squids in space'. And its creep into mainstream cinema is everywhere from Never Let Me Go to Midnight in Paris
Holy looming planets, Batman! It has already been observed that Mike Cahill's Another Earth and Lars Von Trier's Melancholia share the evocative image of another heavenly body in close proximity to Earth. For me, though, the most significant thing about this coincidence is that neither film would normally be classified as science fiction. And it's not as if either director is distancing himself from the term, the way Margaret Atwood seems to be. She's made increasingly baroque contortions to explain that what she writes is "speculative fiction" and not Sf. (Though surely the term "speculative fiction" is tautological. Isn't all fiction speculative?)
There has long been a tendency for Sf themes to bleed into the mainstream and non-sf genres. What is It's a Wonderful Life...

D.E.B.S. was actually made twice. First as a short starring Tammy Lynn Michaels, and later as a feature length film with a larger budget and distribution. The latter version came out in 2004 and was just as gay — if not gayer — than the original.
So what happened to the ladies of the feature film D.E.B.S.?
Sara Foster as good girl Amy
D.E.B.S. was Sara's first feature film, and she was its star. Since then, she's had a few minor roles on TV shows and movies (Psych:9, Demoted) but most recently she's appeared in the recurring role of Jen Clark on 90210. She is often photographed watching the matches of her boyfriend, professional German tennis player Tommy Haas.
Jordana Brewster as bad girl Lucy
Jordana went on to star in Anapolis and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning before getting the role of Mia Torreto in Fast & The Furious, which turned into the...

It’s a DVD and Blu-Ray bounty this week as one of the year’s biggest hits (Fast Five) comes home and one of the greatest films of the 1990s (Pulp Fiction) finally lands on Blu-Ray.
Fast Five: Five Five brought the entire franchise’s cast back and added Dwayne Johnson for what was undoubtedly the best of the series. The gang heads to Rio to attempt a heist with a $100 million payoff. Incredible action and the powerful repartee between Johnson and star Vin Diesel makes this Fast film electric.
Buck: A documentary that not only captures Dan Brannaman’s horse trainer’s impeccable methods, but also how those lessons transfer to life, is a joy to witness. The film had a pretty successful run in theaters over the summer, and should enjoy a wider audience on home video.

Even though Arnie is doing The Last Stand and director Justin Lin will be doing Fast and Furious 6 next, both for 2013, that hasn’t stopped Lin from discussing his post-Fast film: Terminator 5. In an interview with MovieHole, Lin has expressed keen interest in bringing back Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), who was killed by a disease in between T2 and Rise of the Machines.
“Sarah Connor is such a big part of the franchise, you know. Yeah, I mean I’ve always been surprised how in part 3 she was just like… It was like one line and she was gone. And I think that you know if the right version, if you go back to the thematic drives of the first one especially, I think that’s a way to be able to reengage with that franchise. I think the great thing about this franchise is you have…...

With Fast Five scoring far bigger numbers than any previous Fast & The Furious movie, it’s clear that a little Rock won’t hurt your action franchise. So it’s not shocking to learn that Dwayne Johnson may appear in the GI Joe sequel, possibly as the popular character Roadblock. There should be plenty of room for the former wrestler, as it’s been rumored that only a few of the characters from the first movie will be returning, with Channing Tatum‘s Duke the most likely. While the first film was a definite success, there was plenty of room for improvement—we’re especially glad no one’s calling for Marlon Wayans to come back—and J0hnson would be an easy way to go about that.
As for the franchise that made this all possible, the odds for a sixth Fast film are pretty good, with Johnson’s...

Another easy call at the top, the only art to predicting this weekend involves how high Thor will go. Will people respond to it the way the critics have? I'm going to say "probably" followed directly by a "but watch out for ..." just to cover my bases. Laremy predicted the #1 movie correctly 1 Week In A Row Thor I started by looking at Wolverine's per theater average, but then I backed off once I saw the Mtc tracking. It doesn't look too solid for $80m, and this isn't a film I entirely understand the momentum for. Were people clamoring for a Thor movie? Then again, it's made $125m internationally already, and only $700k of that was in Norway, so perhaps they were.
Still, it is a "superhero" movie, a classification that is now generic enough to support almost any big-bugget actioner involving superpowers. In this case Thor's powers are actually God-like,...
