Better than Suikoden 1
Genkkaku7 May 2006
Suikoden II is my all time favorite RPG, it has everything you could want in a game like this. The strongest part of Suikoden II (Like 1) Is its Plot which is believable from start to finish and having it work into a land on the brink of war makes it that much more fantastic. The music is fun to listen to while playing, The turn-based battle with 6 characters at once makes the game easier and more fun and definitely collecting the 108 Stars of destiny (108+ if you collect the MukuMuku and co.). The last thing is the graphics which are basic 2D but they are done so well there as appealing to the eye today as they were back in 98 (i think) when it came out.

I highly recommend this to anyone interested in RPG's or compelling games specially since this game is so hard to come by.

A classic RPG, I can play it over and over again and never get bored with it

Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what it is about Genso Suikoden II but I can't stop playing it. I've played it countless times and love it each time I do play it. It's simply a surreal experience. It drew me in as one of the first RPG's (Rule Playing Games for anyone wondering) and made me love video games of his genre in general. Maybe it is the amazing characters, maybe it is the massive battles, maybe it is the wonderful story line. I really don't know why but I find Suikoden II (as referred to by everyone in the States) to be one of the best video games I have ever played.

You get to run around the City-State of Jowston as you begin to lead an uprising against the oppressive and tyrannical Kingdom of Highland as Luca Blight leads terror across the country. You play as the Hero (you name him) as he battles personal problems with being attached to one of the 27 Runes of Destiny and the betrayal of a close friend. Through the game you must unite the City-States and gain allies, unite the 108 Stars of Destiny (which is loads of fun) and go to battle with Luca Blight and the Kingdom of Highland across Jowston.

The lead characters are amazing. The hero and Nanami are great lead characters. What makes the game work like so many other games is the villain. The supporting characters: Viktor, Flik, Shu, Apple, etc are all great characters. They all have stories behind them, pasts that can be unlocked in the games that make for an even more believable experience. Vikotr and Flik have become two of my favorite characters in video games. They are simply hilarious and great.

Without a strong villain this game fails. Luca Blight turns out to be one of the best video game villains of the 1990's and makes this game work. He is cynical, mad, and overall malicious. He stops at nothing to get what he feels is right. He'll kill anyone he wants without question. Only your main character may oppose him. It is simply an incredible villain that beats out any of the other Suikoden villains, past and present. Luca will always be remembered for being true fear to the player playing the game.

What is featured in all of the Suikoden games is the building up the castle idea. You collect the Stars of Destiny and your castle grows and grows and grows. You can simply wander around it exploring anywhere you want. I love this feature of the game and makes it so you are not simply restricted to following the story line. You can take as much time as you want. You are also able to roam all over the country, go to cities and forts, meet people, collect books, recipes, and various other things that may improve your castle. It is the minor things in this game that make it so great.

5/5 Stars

Good Game Play but the storyline is a very different story altogether.
Sabre_Wolf5 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
When I played this I was excited because this was a sequel to one of my favourite Role Playing Games and I hoped for something that would surpass the original however I was disappointed in a few areas.

Make no mistake I loved the game-play in fact its one of the great features on this also a side quest and in games were a great touch. In fact there were some good ideas.

However the storyline was a different matter for me because I was severely disappointed in it. Because I liked the storyline at first with Prince Luca Blight as the main antagonist however halfway into the game it got really, really bad and the plot began to annoy me as did a few of the characters even the character I played (even though he effectively had little dialogue compared to others) in some respects.

All in All the Game-Play deserves a 9 out of 10 however the story line particularly mid way deserves a 2 out of 10.

My Favorite RPG
lyli_katea22 October 2005
Suikoden is the first RPG I have ever played; I was in 5th grade. I remember finding this game in my brother's collection, and I was attracted to the artwork on the cover. My brother didn't trust me with his PS1 at the time, so it took forever to finally convince him to let me play. I remember sleepless nights of sweat dripping down my forehead playing that game; we had no air conditioning upstairs yet. I remember not even knowing what an RPG was until this game. This is my favorite RPG of all time. I love it and will never give it away. I love the artwork, the storyline, the characters, the graphics (even if they are outdated), the side-quests, the mini-games, and the responsibility of finding all 108 characters. All in all, this is a great game. A classic that will be forever enjoyable to play. In fact, I still play it even after I beat it.

Better in every way than its predecessor

Suikoden II (9/10), along with much cleaner and detailed graphics, a better, more compelling and involving storyline, and more intense, harder gameplay, make it a classic RPG surpassing the original and easily earning a place in my top 10 RPGs of all time. (My 6th favourite RPG of all time? Maybe...) Play this game and be glad you did.

The greatest RPG!
juztyn04269 February 2006
Suikoden 2 is absolutely TERRIFIC. I've played it SO MANY times. I can't get enough of it. The story is fantastic & tragic & everything else and is filled with twists and turns. The regular battles are fun. The full scale battles are great, sometimes I play this game just to play the full scale battles. The music is good. It's a game you can get into & feel like you there with everyone like with Final Fantasy 7, 8, & 9. The only flaw this game has is that it was rushed out so some of the dialogue is misunderstood or mixed up. If you've never played Suikoden, I ABSOLUTELY SUGGEST trying this game out even before playing the first one. I played the second one first (not intentionally, it just kinda happened that way) & it made appreciate the first game A lot. It's too bad the game doesn't get more info or story into all the characters. I'll go into more detail some other time or if a lot of people want me to.

An amazing RPG which shows that not all games are about flashy graphics.
Not-that-Drunk22 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Where can I start on a game like Suikoden 2; Welll It was my (As in I owned) first ever RPG and I was lucky enough to purchase it at a garage sale. And I must say that although it is 2D, It is a spectacular looking RPG with what could be the most twisted RPG storyline ever. Add to that an excellent battle system and a wonderful music score and you have got an amazing game.

The story of the game is about a young man who is about 17 and is forced into a war after the Youth Brigade that he is serving in is slaughtered to the last man by the bloodthirsty prince of his own homeland which the prince did to start a war between Highland (The Enemy Nation of the story) and the City States of Jowston (The good guys). If i was to say anymore than I would spoil the beautiful story but let me tell you that when the adopted sister of the hero dies you will be sad.

Buy at all costs
