Ingenious Adult feature from a master
lor_18 June 2018
Deceptively simple in its short-story format, this concise Adult movie by James Avalon shows the director at the peak of his creative power. it's exactly the sort of porn film no longer made and perhaps no longer desired by a public fed a steady diet of all-sex content.

Setting is a strip club, atmospherically presented with small touches rather than a big-budget and loads of extras. The movie looks like it was shot on film, and has an unusual structure that gives it a freshness most porn features from the VHS era lack.

T.T. Boy leads off as the protagonist, sitting up close and mesmerized by stripper Nikki Tyler. He fantasizes being on stage with her and enjoying explicit sex, an intentional violation by writer-director Avalon of the basic principle of screen eroticism that dictates one must make the viewer weight for the characters to get it on, creating erotic suspense.

But of course he doesn't get to actually hump her, but instead is immediately manipulated by Tyler (playing a character named Jewel) into obeying her every wish, just with the prospect that if he obeys he'll get to spend the night with this unattainable dream gril.

Without spoiling the movie by giving away too much detail, it becomes quickly apparent that Tyler is up to no good, and in a captivating performance (far better than her more famous work for Vivid Video and directors like Paul Thomas) she propels the narrative in marvelously ambiguous fashion.

Her boss at the club is Mr. Snow, played subtly by crew member and occasional actor Anthony Crane. With noir elements of a couple on the run Avalon switches midway through the film from T.T. Boy to his buddy Tom Byron, up until that point merely a minor character and foil, as lead player, and Byron earns the audience's sympathy as he becomes a rather chivalrous stud out to protect Jewel and save his own hide.

Avalon peppers the simple story with eye-popping BDSM tableaux,, logically part of the narrative as Mr. Snow represents terminal decadence, and has slaves of both sexes doing weird XXX shows for his voyeuristic amusement. Dolled up as a princess being serviced by three studs wearing bowler hats, Lauren Montgomery i a show-stopper in one of these demonstrations, far removed from the demure roles I had seen her in, particularly co-starring in Adam & Eve's classic series "Naked Hollywood".

Well worth catching as one of Avalon's all-time classics, alongside the more pretentious "Trial by Copulation".
