The Spiderwick Chronicles released on Roku this past Friday and as part of the show’s press junket, I got to sit down and talk with two of the show’s stars. Beloved character actor Christian Slater, known for classic 80s and 90s movies like Heathers and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and recent TV hits like Mr. Robot and Inside Job, who plays the show’s villain Mulgarath; and the lovely and talented Joy Bryant, known for films like Honey and Get Rich or Die Tryin’, who plays Helen Grace.

When news broke in early February that Mariah Carey had booked a return ticket to Las Vegas to mount another residency, it was revealed that she would design the set list as a celebration of her 2005 blockbuster album, The Emancipation of Mimi.
It inspired the title of the exclusive run — The Celebration of Mimi — as well as the timing. Carey took the stage at Park MGM’s Dolby Live to launch the 16-date residency on April 12, 2024, exactly 19 years to the day after the album was released. It’s no surprise Carey wanted to commemorate the 14-track effort, which sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and brought the elusive chanteuse back into familiar territory at the top of the charts. The success of Emancipation of Mimi was fueled by the No. 1 smash “We Belong Together” and punctuated by singles “It’s Like That,” “Shake It Off,” “Get Your Number,” “Don’t Forget About Us,...

Jessica Alba was once one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, but she has turned away from the limelight since. Her career was marked by highs and lows, and Alba enjoyed a lot of success at the height of her popularity.
The actress’ journey to stardom was not easy, though, and it took her years to open up about her troubles. What Alba endured during her teenage years was nothing short of horrific, and she still carries those scars to this day, with her experiences mirroring that of Sydney Sweeney’s.

Towards the end of her song “Amelia,” Samia walks into a party. “I’m writing a poem, somebody stop me,” she sings over balmy synths and a chirpy beat. It’s less of an actual threat and more a self-aware quip from the 27-year-old musician who’s better than almost anyone at turning fleeting moments into poetry.
“I love romanticizing shit, and I always have,” Samia says. “I was an internally dramatic child. There’s something really powerful and something that feels like protest sometimes in writing [my thoughts] down in a song.

Barbara Corcoran, one of the stars of ABC’s reality television show Shark Tank, recently bought a trailer. Yes, the millionaire real estate mogul bought a mobile home. The mobile home is in Los Angeles, California. Specifically, it is in the Pacific Palisades area of one of the United States’ largest metropolitan areas.
Why A Mobile Home?
It is hard to imagine a Shark Tank millionaire buying a mobile home. Mobile homes are not usually thought of as a home to the wealthy and famous. Despite the stigma mobile homes conjure up, the real estate mogul bought herself a mobile home.
Although the thought of living in a mobile home brings to mind The Beverly Hillbillies or Honey Boo Boo and her mother, Barbara Corcoran did not let that stop her from buying it. The Shark Tank star does not think of it as trailer. “Here’s my Taj Mahal – everything’s little,...

In “Crossing,” the new film from “And Then We Danced” director Levan Akin, the earthy spirit of Italian icon Anna Magnani is channeled by not one but two actresses who resemble her. There’s Mzia Arabuli as Lia, a retired schoolteacher on a journey from Batumi in Georgia to Istanbul in Turkey to find her missing trans niece, and Deniz Dumanli as Evrim, the trans Ngo lawyer the movie dupes us into thinking is Lia’s niece. The two women are as far apart on the joie de vivre spectrum as any pair could be — Lia has calcified into an emotionless stone who gives away nothing, while Evrim lives freely and sexually liberated in an otherwise LGBTQ-challenged country — yet “Crossing” movingly bridges the space between them as Lia gets closer to locating her niece with the help a Gen Z Georgian teenager named Achi (Lucas Kankava).

Presented by Lisa Frankenstein, 1989 Week is dialing the clock back to the crossroads year for the genre with a full week of features that dig six feet under into the year. Today, it all comes to an end as Rachel Reeves searches for scares in the suburbs.
In the back half of the 1980s, the American suburbs experienced a resurgence in popularity. As global instabilities stabilized and economies began to boom, moving to the suburbs became a sign of financial and professional success. Primarily populated by young families, the suburbs also became associated with traditional family values, safety, and community. Could you describe the plot of the 2001 Julia Stiles movie "Save the Last Dance" while simultaneously performing Julia Stiles' final dance from the 2001 Julia Stiles movie "Save the Last Dance"? Not many people can answer "yes" to this questions, but one person who can is "Saturday Night Live" cast member Chloe Fineman, who did just that on this weekend's episode. She was even joined for the final portion of the dance by Julia Stiles herself, in a surprise cameo.
"Save the Last Dance" received mixed reviews when it was first released, and in the two decades since the "street ballet" dance that Stiles' character performs in her successful audition for Juilliard has become a recurring target of internet mockery. Still, whether you love, hate, or have never seen "Save the Last Dance," there's no denying that its $131.7 million box office gross helped reignite the Hollywood trend of dance movies. In 2005 and in 2007, director Tim Story made a pair of feature films starring the Fantastic Four, one of Marvel Comics' most superlative titles. "Fantastic Four," created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, was more or less a family sitcom except the three family members and their best friend all happened to have superpowers. It was light and comedic, while also featuring bloviating, demonstrative supervillains who shouted regularly about the glories of world domination. It was a comic book series that declared itself to be The World's Greatest Comics Magazine!
Story's feature film adaptations were not very well received when they were released. 2005's "Fantastic Four" only bears a 28% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while its sequel, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," only has a 38% approval rating. Moreso, Marvel Comics fans were harsh to Story's movies, hating their cartoony tone and corny scripts. It's worth acknowledging, however, that Story's...

It was a family affair for superstar songstress Mariah Carey as she brought her Merry Christmas One and All! tour to the Hollywood Bowl for two sold-out shows on Nov. 17 and 19.
Joining the superstar onstage both nights were her 12-year-old twins (with Nick Cannon), Moroccan and Monroe, or “Roc and Roe,” as the singer put it. Carey’s daughter, Monroe, joined her mom for a duet on a soaring “Jesus Born on This Day,” from Carey’s 1994 holiday album Merry Christmas, with Monroe also fronting a rollicking version of The Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping.” Moroccan made a brief appearance for “Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane).” Upbeat versions — complete with all the “zhuzh,” Carey noted — of her Christmas standards started out the set list with cheer.

Actress Jessica Alba has reflected on her past style decisions. In a new TikTok clip shared by Bobbi Althoff, the podcaster talked to the actress, 42, about having an “awkward phase” while growing up.
As the video started, Althoff, 26, insisted Alba had skipped her “awkward phase” while the actress stated that the assumption was incorrect, reports ‘People’ magazine.
Still, Althoff felt that the ‘Dark Angel’ alum had the liberty of missing out on “a normal person’s awkward stage.”
“If I showed you pictures of me when I’m saying awkward, you would be like – you would look at me differently,” the host claimed.
Alba then shed light on how she actually got an early start on the so-called cringe rite of passage. “It’s so weird that I started using a curling iron and hairspray at age, like, five,” she confessed. “And no wonder I had so much asthma.”

Singer-songwriter Mariah Carey has posted some Instagram shots reminiscent of her ‘Dreamlover’ music video look from 30 years ago. In the photos, Carey posed in a black-and-white flannel with her hair worn in long, soft waves pulled back on the sides, and also wore more natural makeup, reports People magazine.
“Homage to the Dreamlover video (sans the grassy fields),” the five-time Grammy winner, 54, captioned her photo series.
“Instantly transported back to 1993. You’re timeless Mc!” one follower wrote, while another chimed in: “This casual style looks so good on you!” For the ’90s video, Carey had worn a blue-and-white flannel knotted at the bottom revealing her midsection, paired with cuffed jean shorts and a chunky black belt with her hair in ringlets, tied in low pigtails.

Måneskin had the distinction of being one of the few rock bands to play the 2023 MTV VMAs. The Italian outfit made the most of the moment, delivering a performance of “Honey (Are U Coming?)” that had the whole house on their feet — Taylor Swift included.
Frontman Damiano David began the performance in the crowd, singing into a handheld camera. As he made his way past Swift, she blew him a kiss. David then made his way to the stage and rejoined the rest of Måneskin for an electrifying rendition of the band’s new standalone single.
Måneskin’s “The Loneliest” won up for Best Rock at this year’s VMAs, while they’re were also nominated for Group of the Year. Last year, MTV censored the band’s performance of “Supermodel” after bassist Victoria De Angelis’ top fell off on stage. The track later appeared on the Italian rockers’ 2023 album Rush!

The story of Riley Keough and Gina Gammell’s War Pony, which traces the lives of members of the Oglala Lakota tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation, starts on the set of another film. As she awaited filming a scene in Andrea Arnold’s American Honey, Keough struck up a friendship with extras Bill Reddy and Franklin Sioux Bob from Pine Ridge. She would later visit them at the reservation with Gammell, her producing partner, and the quartet’s energy began funneling the energy of their friendship into a cinematic form.
“The spirit of that summer informed War Pony,” Keough admits. Just as American Honey’s egalitarian end credits don’t attribute hierarchical titles to the artists involved in the film, so, too, does War Pony embody a spirit of collaborative creativity. In conjunction with the wider Pine Ridge community, Bill and Franklin’s experiences and stories of growing up...

Thirty years ago, when Mariah Carey stepped into the studio with David Morales and transformed “Dreamlover,” her seventh Billboard Number One into an underground dance-floor smash, it didn’t just place the singer-songwriter in front of a whole new audience, it changed pop-dance remixing forever.

Samia has tapped Maya Hawke to cover “Honey,” the title track to her album released earlier this year. Listen to Hawke’s take on the song below.
“Honey” was already a pretty sparse song, with muted guitar quickly strummed over Samia’s daydreaming about a carefree weekend. But Hawke’s rendition really leans into the sadness at the heart of the track, reissuing that guitar melody with fuzzy keys and an even more vulnerable vocal.
Samia examined Hawke’s cover of “Honey” in a statement. “When we were recording ‘Honey’ for the album we added this ironic depth by turning what was originally a painful song into a kind of campfire sing along — big bouncy guitars, a happy melody, that endless refrain,” she explained. “So I was eager to hear what Maya would do with it. Surprisingly, she stripped all of the campfire away. In her version you can hear...

Joe Johnston's family adventure film "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" was an unexpected hit when it was released in the summer of 1989. Modestly budgeted, the film starred Rick Moranis as an amateur molecular engineer and father of three who has been working on a shrink ray in his attic in his spare time. When his kids are playing around in the attic, they activate the shrink ray and are reduced to a tiny size. They are then unwittingly swept into the trash and carried out to the backyard. The bulk of the film is a trek the tiny kids take across the lawn, climbing enormous stalks of grass, befriending giant ants, and doing battle with monstrous scorpions. "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" famously played with the first of three Roger Rabbit cartoon shorts, "Tummy Trouble," likely contributing to its success. The film made $222 million worldwide.

Toronto rapper Haviah Mighty has announced her new album, Crying Crystals, out on July 14th. As the latest preview of the record, she’s shared a collaboration with her sister Omega Mighty called “Zoom Zoom.”
Spanning 13 tracks, Crying Crystals features appearances from a diverse roster of rappers including Chicago mainstay Jean Deaux, New Zealander JessB, and Montreal native Zach Zoya, the latter of whom guests on a pair of songs. Thus far, Mighty has also teased the album with “Huh,” “Room Service,” and “Honey Bun.”
As Mighty tells Consequence, “Zoom Zoom” was inspired by a 2023 Toronto summer and trying out new sonics. “The amapiano sound has a grip on the city because of its amalgamation of dance and Afro sounds fused together,” she explains. “I wanted to explore producing in that world.”

Ruston Kelly has lightened the load on his cathartic single “The Weakness” by teaming up with recent CoSign Samia for a new version of the track. Stream it below.
Whereas the original heavily leans into electric guitar and Kelly’s brooding vocals, the new version is an acoustic pop record that truly shines when Samia and Kelly’s voices intertwine. There’s more of a sense of hope when the two of them promise not to “give in to the weakness” as opposed to Kelly doing it on his own. Stream the track below.
“Samia brings that special infinity vibe,” Kelly said in a statement. “It’s like this familiar yet incredibly unique energy in everything I’ve heard her do. After hearing her sing, I became an instant fan. There wasn’t anyone other than her that I wanted to help me deconstruct ‘The Weakness’ and mold it into something new — something more haunting,...

Oscar winner Al Pacino (The Godfather), Oscar nominee Viggo Mortensen (Green Book), Oscar nominee John Travolta (Pulp Fiction), BAFTA winner Shia Labeouf (Honey Boy), NBR Award winner Rebecca Pidgeon (Heist) and Golden Globe nominated singer and actress Courtney Love (The People vs. Larry Flynt) are set to star in the thriller Assassination, we can reveal.
The film, which Arclight is launching for the Cannes market, is to be directed by Pulitzer Prize-winner and Oscar nominee David Mamet (Wag the Dog) from a script he co-wrote with Nicholas Celozzi.
Assassination will retell the fateful murder of John F. Kennedy from the mob’s point of view, reimagining his death as a hit ordered by Chicago mob kingpin Sam Giancana as payback for JFK’s attempt to undermine the mob after they helped get him elected (that thread formed a big part of Oliver Stone’s JFK).
Script co-writer Celozzi is Giancana’s grandnephew.

Beyoncé has officially kicked off her "Renaissance" World Tour. The megastar launched the highly anticipated event on May 10 in Stockholm, Sweden, kicking off a three-hour set without an opening act. She's set to travel through Europe through June before coming to North America over the summer, completing over 40 dates by the time the tour is through.
The tour is Beyoncé's first since 2018's "On the Run" tour with Jay-Z. Her last solo tour was in support of 2016's "Lemonade," so needless to say, the "Renaissance" tour is a major event - and Forbes has predicted that it could gross up to $2.6 billion by the time it's complete, making it one of the most profitable tours ever. It also marks Beyoncé's first live performance since 2018 other than a one-off appearance in Dubai in January, where she appeared alongside her oldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
Ahead, check out the full set list...
