I found this short fascinating for several reasons. The animation style is unusual, for one thing, though it's the typical style that Faith Hubley and her daughters used.
It's also a combination of baseball imagery and the poetry of William Blake, which makes for a strange combination. The Hubley style makes it all the more fascinating. Seeing different animals playing baseball while the words of William Blake's poetry is read by narrators makes for an interesting viewing experience, to say the least.
It's all very Zen. I suspect that the audience for this is relatively small. I don't know what it says that I'm a part of the audience for this short, as I like poetry, I enjoy Blake's work, love animation in general and the Hubleys are a taste I have acquired. The whole idea that Blake and baseball can be successfully connected just floors me! This short can be found on DVD, The Hubley Collection, Volume 1. The DVD and the short are both worth seeking out and watching. Recommended.
