Shonda Rhimes isn't ready for Scandal to end.
Et's Nischelle Turner spoke with the showrunner as she was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, where she reflected on her career and seven seasons of Scandal.
"I always said, 'I'm going to take over the world through television,' and that sounded fun, but I thought I was just going to be writing shows and enjoying myself and hopefully somebody would watch them," Rhimes confessed. "I don't think I ever dreamed of this."
"I feel so lucky that I've gotten to work with so many amazing people and that we form such great bonds that have lasted so long," she added, before dishing on Scandal's final episodes -- and whether Olivia Pope can come back from the dark side that is B613.

"This isn't the land of backup, Jane, this is the land of 'you're on your own.'" The Weinstein Company has debuted a second trailer for the indie thriller Wind River, the feature directorial debut of screenwriter Taylor Sheridan (of Sicario and Hell or High Water previously). This film is a "snow-noir" thriller about a murder mystery set in the snowy mountains of Wyoming, mostly around an Indian Reservation where the locals clash with the government authorities. Jeremy Renner stars, with Elizabeth Olsen as a FBI agent sent to investigate. The cast includes Jon Bernthal, Martin Sensmeier, Julia Jones, Kelsey Asbille, Graham Greene, and Gil Birmingham. This excellent film has been playing at film festivals all over the world, from Sundance to Cannes to Sydney to Seattle (here's my review). I saw it for a second time at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, and it's still as good as it was the first time around.

As a row of women, led by prison guards, are marched onto a sparse and industrial set, the Julius Caesar that audiences are familiar with is revived and remodelled in Phyllida Lloyd’s adaptation of the Shakespeare classic, in this first instalment of the Donmar Shakespeare Trilogy.
The cast, exclusively female, and for some, their first experience of performing Shakespeare, not only bring a different voice to a stereotypically male dominated production, but at the same time provide a platform for voices of those who may feel excluded from mainstream society and culture.
Led by theatre veteran Harriet Walter, Donmar’s Julius Caesar pushes Shakespeare into new territory, bringing it bang up-to-date with current issues relating to gender, the prison system, fear and diversity. The audience on screen: set in the round, and filmed over two nights, allows for seamless camera placement. Part prison, part Rome: It smashes...

Welcome to Career Watch, a vocational checkup of top actors and directors, and those who hope to get there. In this edition we take on Jude Law, who’s always been hard to pin down, and his title role in HBO Emmy Contender “The Young Pope” is no exception.
Bottom Line: As he embraces his mid-40s, Jude Law has morphed from British golden boy to globally bankable character actor. His range is wide, from tragic robot Gigolo Joe in Steven Spielberg’s “A.I.” to Robert Downey, Jr.’s comedy sidekick Dr. Watson in Guy Ritchie’s blockbuster “Sherlock Holmes” franchise. Still stunningly handsome, Law is gaining grit and gravitas as he gets older. But there’s a sense he’s still holding back.
Latest Misfires: Law took on evil power-monger Vortigern opposite Charlie Hunnam as Arthur in Ritchie’s attempt to similarly update “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword,...

Another month has passed. It’s now May, part of the second third of the year, and hopefully the point where 2017 kicks into cinematic gear. That may or may not be the case, depending on how the month goes, but as the summer blockbuster season fast approaches, we’re left to ponder such things. Upon first glance, May isn’t looking too promising, but anything is possible. Below you will see ten films opening this month that I think are worth making time for. Some I’ve seen, some I haven’t, but they’re all hitting over the coming weeks. Take a gander and cross your fingers that some exceed expectations… Here now are May’s best cinematic bets: 10. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword – Did anyone ask for this blockbuster? Nope, didn’t think so. And yet, here it is. For what it’s worth, the filmmaker delivering this one is Guy Ritchie,...

A delirious blend of high-octane action, razor-sharp political satire and full-throttle mayhem, Roger Corman’s Death Race 2050 is the highly anticipated reboot of the cult classic Death Race 2000 (which itself was remade in 2008) . The film straps viewers into the driver’s seat of the ultimate auto showdown, a blood-splattered no-holds-barred virtual-reality show that gleefully pits hardened road warriors against each other — and their audience.
Legendary filmmaking icon, Roger Corman, is back with his most outrageous film yet in this sensational, action-packed and darkly humorous reboot of the original Death Race 2000! It’s the year 2050 and America is controlled by an all-powerful corporate government ruled by The Chairman (Malcolm McDowell). The masses have been brainwashed with violent virtual-reality entertainment. The event of the year is the Death Race, in which a motley crew of violent drivers compete in a cross-country road race, scoring points for shamelessly running people...

Round The Horne is touring around the UK. We went. We laughed. A lot.
New Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham
2017 sees another run of the Round The Horne 50th anniversary tour by the Apollo Theatre Company, where the classic Radio 4 show is brought to life by a brilliantly authentic cast of voice actors.
If you've never heard Round The Horne, you're missing a staple of British comedy. The show ran from 1965-1968, and pushed the boundaries of acceptable humour with its blend of double entendres, camp comedy and general silliness.
The staple cast included Kenneth Horne, Betty Marsden, Hugh Paddick, Kenneth Williams, and announcer Douglas Smith. Smith's involvement is made funnier in contrast to his other well known role as a Radio 4 announcer. The original show featured musical accompaniment by Edwin Braden and the Hornblowers, and later The Max Harris Group. For the anniversary show, musical and sound effect...

Does Nancy End Up with Jonathan After All? Stranger Things Stars Spotted Jetting Out of Lax Together
Team Nancy and Jonathan!
The cast of Stranger Things quickly became inseparable after filming season 1 of the hit Netflix series, and while much of the attention might be focused on Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and her crew, the slightly older costars are just as close.
Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton, who play Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers, respectively, were spotted jetting out of Lax together on Monday — further fueling romance rumors that certain fans are clinging to.
Of course, they could very well just be good friends. As evidenced by their Instagram accounts, Dyer, 19, Heaton, 22, and Joe Keery, 24, who plays Steve Harrington,...

Casting directors have a strange distinction in the awards world: Their guild has an Academy branch, but it’s the only one without its own Oscar category. Imagine for a moment that they did. What are the best-cast films of 2016?
IndieWire asked 13 of the top casting directors to nominate films worthy of casting recognition this year. There were a few restrictions worth noting. Although casting directors often get early sneak peeks at films, many noted there are some films they still hadn’t seen. In particular, many are anxious to find out what legendary casting director Ellen Lewis has cooked up for Martin Scorsese’s “Silence.” The other restriction, which was imposed as responses came in: They couldn’t all write about “Moonlight.” (We’ll dig further into the casting of that film in another article.)

The cast also includes Mark Strong, Jason O'Mara, Guillaume Canet and Sam Keeley and comes from producer Alan Moloney (Brooklyn, Albert Nobbs, Byzantium), director Richie Smyth and writer Kevin Brodbin. "For better or worse, the ride had begun. And what a ride..." The Weinstein Company has debuted the first trailer for the film called Gold, the latest from screenwriter Stephen Gaghan, who also directs. Gold stars Matthew McConaughey as Kenny Wells, and Édgar Ramírez as Michael Acosta, two businessmen who team up to search for gold in Indonesia. The cast includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Joshua Harto, Timothy Simons, Corey Stoll, Toby Kebbell, Bruce Greenwood, Bill Camp and Rachael Taylor. This looks solid, but there's a wacky side to it I wasn't expecting. It might be fun to watch. "This is inexplicable!" The Weinstein Company has unveiled the full-length, official trailer for Hands of Stone, one of the two major boxing movies this year (the other being Miles Teller's Bleed For This). The film tells the true story of professional boxer Roberto Durán, played by Edgar Ramirez, who hails from Panama. Durán fought predominantly during the 80s and is still considered one of the greatest boxers of all-time, earning the nickname "Hands of Stone" during his career. The cast includes Robert De Niro as trainer Ray Arcel, plus Usher Raymond IV as Sugar Ray Leonard, Ana de Armas, Ellen Barkin, and John Turturro. The first teaser didn't show much, but this one gives us a good look at what to expect in this story about a legendary boxer. It seems as much about Durán as it does about Sugar Ray Leonard, too. "Lure people out of the villages into its cave with his white face and red nose..." The Weinstein Company has debuted a trailer for the horror film Clown, which is directed by Jon Watts, the filmmaker now set to direct the next Spider-Man movie. It's actually based on a fake trailer that Watts originally made in 2012 that included fake credits for producer Eli Roth. Roth actually saw the trailer, got involved, and helped them make a feature version and this is the final product. The concept is about a clown suit that a father finds that when he puts it on turns him into an evil child-eating clown, which reminds me a bit of Santa Clause or The Mask (though this is much, much more sinister). The cast includes Andy Powers, Laura Allen, Peter Stormare, Christian Distefano, Chuck Shamata, and Elizabeth Whitmere. See both trailers below. Here's the official release...

"There should be McDonald's everywhere! Franchise the damn thing!" This looks like it might be pretty damn good. The Weinstein Company has debuted the first trailer for The Founder, from director John Lee Hancock, starring Michael Keaton as McDonald's founder Ray Kroc. The story is actually about how Kroc sort of "stole" the business right out from under the McDonald brothers, played by Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch, who originally came up with the idea for a fast food burger joint in the 1950s. The cast includes Laura Dern, Linda Cardellini, Patrick Wilson and B.J. Novak. Keaton's performance doesn't seem better than his last few roles, but the film looks like it's definitely worth seeing when it opens. Here's the first official trailer for John Lee Hancock's The Founder, from USA Today (via The Playlist): Written by Robert Siegel (Big Fan), The Founder is a drama that...

When the powerful and touching French drama The Intouchables grossed over $426 million at the worldwide box office, it became pretty obvious that The Weinstein Company would pursue an American version. But who could have guessed just how perfect the casting might be, as it's being reported that Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart are in line to star. According to Variety, Bryan Cranston is currently in discussions with The Weinstein Company about joining Kevin Hart in the remake, which is being overseen by Simon Curtis. Released to critical acclaim by The Weinstein Company back in 2011, The Intouchables revolves around the friendship between Francois Cluzet.s Philippe, an aristocrat that became a paraplegic following a paragliding accident, and Omar Sy.s Driss, his care giver who hails from the projects. As you probably guessed, but I.ll now confirm, Bryan Cranston will take the role of Philipe and Kevin Hart will play...

In an effort to showcase his range as an actor, Hart is signing on to star opposite Bryan Cranston in The Weinstein Company’s remake of the 2011 French dramedy “The Intouchables,” an individual familiar with the project told TheWrap. Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano directed the original movie, which grossed $416 million overseas. Despite several false starts, it looks as though The Weinstein Company’s Intouchables remake is beginning to set the wheels in motion today, with Deadline reporting that Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart are in negotiations to headline.
It should be noted that, while neither deal is signed and sealed at the time of writing, talks are reportedly at an advanced stage, as The Weinstein Company is eager to fire up production on its remake of Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano’s French dramedy during the summer. Prior to today’s announcement, both Colin Firth and Tom Shadyac had flirted with key roles in the retelling. Elsewhere, citing sources close to the production, Variety claims that Simon Curtis has closed a deal to helm the western remake.
First released in 2011 by TWC, Intouchables has been ripe for the remake treatment ever since it pulled in a respectable $416 million overseas.

Sundance: Fox Searchlight swooped on Monday night for worldwide rights to Nate Parker’s The Birth Of A Nation, reportedly paying $17.5m in what would be the biggest ever on-site deal in Park City.
Separately, Amazon Studios has snapped up another Sundance title, taking North American rights to Todd Solondz’s Wiener-Dog.
Parker’s slave revolt drama The Birth Of A Nation premiered on Monday at the Eccles and earned a prolonged standing ovation. Bron Studios, Mandalay Pictures, Phantom Four and Tiny Giant Productions produced.
The film’s resonance is particularly profound in a season when diversity and a perceived lack of recognition of non-white actors has dominated the headlines.
Buyers were out in force and moved quickly to pursue it. According to reports Netflix offered a higher sum - around $20m - but Parker is understood to have wanted wide theatrical exposure and in the end Searchlight won out and was closing the deal on Tuesday...
